Windows 11 Films & TV cant add my dvd files copied to pc

I have been adding all my mp4s and slideshows into Films & Tv App
However it will not play all my old dvd files of family and holidays that I save on my pc.
Any ideas as I was hopng to not have to use lots of apps

Try VLC media player to see if problem the save file or with Films & Tv App.

I used to be able to right click the folders containing the videos and open them in VLC.
But since installing Windows 11 I cannot do that.
I was hoping they would open in Films and TV app.

If you can open the files with VLC media player on Windows 11 then problem is the Films and TV app, maybe it does not support codecs for the files.

Is it possible to download codes to make it work?
I cannot right click on a folder and open in vlc anymore.
I have to open the folders as normal in Windows and click on the vts files one by one to view them
They also have text across the bottom of them.
So cannot watch a whole video and I have lots of them.

You can install codecs pack, but you don't know if the app will use it.

Sorry.. I wouldn't know how to do it. So that's not the answer for me.
Don't know why vlc won't let me right click a folder anymore and the video plays. Was OK in Win 10.

There was an annoying change to the app a little while back so you could no longer play local files.

However, it seems MS have reinstated it - you click on personal tab, and add folder. However, I do not know how to play a dvd. The dvd files would need to be extracted by a dvd ripper into mp4 format.

Be warned. Codec packs quite often make changes to the system that affect other programs.

I do NOT support or recommend codec installations under any circumstances - especially if you don't know how.

I'm surprised that VLC player won't handle your video files (I assuming they're not "raw" DVD files (*.vob, *.ifo, *.bup files) and have been made into computer video files (.*mp4, *.mkv). If not, you may need to rip the DVD contents to a video file format - MakeMKV is a good free program.

Once exracted and converted, many other freeware programs may help in converting the files to an acceptable form - simple programs like Handbrake or Vidcoder. When more experienced, step up to something like ffmpeg (command line) or AVIDemux

If VLC really doesn't work, then try Daum PotPlayer (freeware)

Never be tempted to buy, there is s-o-o-o-o free stuff around.

I have never been a supporter of installing codec packs. Going back to the days I was into video editing and a active member of a video forum it was always suggested to just add the codec you needed and not the whole codec pack. Things may have changed but I'll always go by that suggestion.

VLC should play you DVD files. Have you tried uninstalling VLC and doing a clean install? I just tried one of my DVDs and all I had to do in File Explorer was to right click on it and choose Play with VLC.

The files are already added to pc from dvd
They are video ts? Have lots of folders of them.
Really wanted to play then in the Films & TV App. But no good
So went back to how I did it in Windows 10
Just right clicked a folder and play came up.
Then all the videos in the folder played
But now the only option I have is open.

How did you save the DVDs as a file? Did you save it as an ISO? Films & TV cannot play an ISO of a DVD, but VLC can open an ISO and play it as a DVD.

If you try to open a *.ts file in Films & TV or in Media Player it should tell you that you need a new codec, and give you the option for installing it from the Store.

If it doesn't you can get the codec from the Store yourself here:

I just opened My DVD in file and right clicked on the VIDEO_TS folder and two of the options are to add to VLC media player's play list and play with VLC media player. The only thing I can think of is to try is my suggestion to clean install VLC. I don't use Movies and TV so I can't help you on it.

Right-click on any VIDEO_TS folder, then select 'Show more options'.
All your old W10 options are hiding there, including Play with VLC media player.
