Hi,

One of my laptops crashed unexpectedly. Everything was fine until a loud alarm, like a long deeper tone sounded. I went to the computer (I was not on it at the time) and something was on the screen but it suddenly swiped up and turned off. I couldn't read the message in time. Turning it back on, I was given different options like "Choose an Option" and options "Troubleshoot" and "Turn off PC". That took me to the advanced options where I can do startup repair, command prompt, system restore, system image recovery, UEFI Firmware Settings and Uninstall Updates. I researched and from what I found, there were lots of discussions about needing to restore the BCD files. So I did try some things and soon, some of the help led me into the command prompt. I was able to see my hard drive at the time. I tried command lines from NavyLCDR from TenForums (found here) with someone who had similar issues. He said probably need to rebuild the entire system partition. The command lines he gave are these:

diskpart
select disk 0
list part
list vol

I was able to see my hard drive so everything checked out. Then he said:

"In your command prompt, run the following commands. If any of the commands fail, stop and post which one failed:
diskpart
sel dis 0
sel par 1
del par override
cre par EFI
for fs=FAT32 quick
assign letter=T
exit
bcdboot C:\Windows /s T: /f ALL
exit

Then reboot the computer."

I followed the steps. But after restarting the computer, I got a blue screen with a message "Your PC couldn't start properly" and the error code 0xc0000001. Only options were to try again, F1 for recovery environment, F8 for startup settings and Esc for UEFI Firmware Settings. Any option under F8 just returned me back to this menu. Esc sent me to the BIOS menu and F1 would take me to another blue screen that said Your PC/Device needs to be repaired. The BCD file doesn't contain valid information for an operating system. File: \BCD" Then error code 0xc0000098. The only way to be able to get the previous options for recovery like the CMD prompt option and the others, were to boot the computer with a USB using Media Creation Tool Windows 11 from the Windows website.

Now if I go into the CMD prompt, the only drives it shows is the USB. No more hard drive. It was after I entered the command prompts that took away the hard drive. Can someone tell me what's going on? I have no idea. I feel like those command prompts formatted the hard drive or something. I can't find a windows directory either under C:\dir.

Any help is very much appreciated. Thank you!

Welcome to the forums :-)

You have messed up right from the start by assuming you knew what the issue was. You should have verified what the issue was first before blindly following instructions that were NOT given to you.

At this point, I would simply re-install Windows.

Welcome to the forum. Sorry it had to be under such circumstances.

This is just me. I tend to take a more direct approach so others may disagree with me. If it were mine and I was troubleshooting it, my first suspicion would be hardware failure with drive failure being most likely. Your BCD data is not going to change on its own. Something would have had to be going on within the system at the time to change it. (did you verify before you used those commands you copied in the above post that the commands applied to your configuration. Many times your system disk is not disk 0)

I would first test my drive with Seatools Bootable (note this tool has difficulty if disk mode set to raid in UEFI bios)
If the drive fails, I would contact Acer if the laptop is still under warranty. You don't list your complete specs so I am speculating about it's age.

If the drive tests to be is viable, I would restore an image since I backup regularly.
If I had no image I would clean install making sure all partitions are deleted and choosing the option to install windows on unallocated space.
Note: if the recovery partition is viable there is a slim chance you can use recovery to reset the laptop. A reset and remove everything will rebuild your partitions. If it is not possible or doesn't work, then clean install. Also note: if you have multiple drives, it is a good idea to disconnect the non-system drive during a clean install.

Thank you glasskuter for the advice. Do you think my files were deleted? The laptop is only a month old. It's under warranty but I want to gather my personal files first.

You indicated that you can use a USB stick to access a CMD window.

You can use that to read your drive, if possible and using dir, copy, etc., copy any important files to another drive. Then you can re-install Windows and copy the files back where you want them.

Note that it is always a good idea to partition your C: drive, if you have enough space to do so and then save all of your important files to the second partition. That way if you encounter an issue like this again, you can re-install Windows without fear of losing your important files.

Adding a second drive is just as effective and would give you more room to grow.

I do not know how your computer was set up. Regarding your personal files, know this though. If you were using a MS account your files most likely are in Onedrive. If that be so, everything will be available to you after a clean install as long as you use the same MS account. You do not have to recover anything.
You can verify that all your files are in Onedrive by going to Onedrive on the web. If all your files are there you don't have to worry about file recovery. Sign in - Microsoft OneDrive

If you were using a local account with your files stored on your system drive and if file recovery is necessary, yes you can use the command line as was suggested, but I'm not really good using the command line so I simplify file recovery.
If a drive is viable the way I recover data is to use a live linux distro boot usb drive. Any distro will do but I use Mint. Inset both your Linux drive and a second flash drive which you will copy your data to. You boot from the Linux flash drive and choose the option to run Linux directly from it. It's "desktop" is very similar to XP so it is easy to navigate to its equivalent of file explorer
Linux will see all the drives connected to the laptop. Browse the windows drive and copy your personal folders to the second usb drive.

When available post images or share links displaying Sea Tools bootable Long Generic test results.

Indicate the status of important files:

The buzzing sound, it most likely is a CPU core crash/CPU core fault. Or a GPU core fault.

Looks like pretty much the only other possibility, is a bad drive.

I see where you opened another thread regarding this. So there is no cross-posting, that thread should be deleted.. Should I reinstall windows or can I fix it through external USB?

No you can not fix a bsod by connecting the drive to another machine.
The fact that you were able to recover your files is positive.

IMO, your laptop is under warranty and should have been returned. You should never have tried commands that may or may not have applied to your particular case, especially when you weren't sure what you were doing. Whether this voids your warranty I can not say. The way I see it, at this point you have not proven whether it is a hardware issue or not. Can the defective laptop boot into UEFI bios? Does bios see the drive when it was installed.

Regarding Seatools Bootable you should have seen an interface when you booted into it. Now that you have the drive in a usb extender you can install Seatools on the other laptop and test the drive in the extender without having to use the bootable version.

I will let @zbook continue to advise what you should do next.

EDIT: Now I see zbook picked up on the other post. You owe him an apology. He is following forum protocol by requesting certain information from you. It is not harrassment as you say.
