Aomei logo - does Microsoft know?

I just posted on the thread about the Aomei review and downloaded and used it, but was not happy with what happened when going to make a recovery usb, nor being pushed to upgrade to be able to create a recovery usb, which was false information. And my usb stick is now no longer usable or recognisable so I don't trust the recovery installed on it.

Also I am surprised Microsoft allow their nice logo on desktop when the program is installed, which looks pretty identical to the Windows update graphic.

Think in the Microsoft sense, it's just an image rather than a logo. I'm pretty sure they don't have a trademark on a circle with rotating arrows inside of it.

Maybe it's the fact that theirs go counter-clockwise (back?) instead of clockwise that protects them from the monster.

I believe that the use of arrows in a circle is a common and widely used symbol, therefore no one holds exclusive rights over it.

Such an image is used almost everywhere by everyone.

Who stole the image/logo from whom?

Would about be the same as when you would try to copyright the symbol of the return key of a keyboard.

O, I C. That's the ENTER key. And once upon a time, it still showed a tyewriter-type arrow that went down a bit and then turned left at a right angle. I think I remember those.

I still call it a return key as well

. Typewriters came first.

Given your misinterpretation of any spin offer to upgrade (you've got the free version, of course you're going to be invited to upgrade ... and probably frequently!), I suspect the latter problem is user error.

EDIT Just (re)checked it, my free version is a straight forward, open, click by click to create a boot USB? No prompts/push/threats about not being able, etc. Not sure where you're coming from now.

EDIT 2 Where did you download your version from?

It offers for you to create the usb after the image - but says you can do it later - as described in this thread attached. If you do what it tells you to do it leads you up the garden path and the only option that opens up is to upgrade if you want recovery. Try doing that -

“It said to make one later you go to tools - recovery environment. Which I did, two or three times but all that did was bring up a pop up trying to get me to upgrade to a paid version and showed recovery needed this.”

I thought I’d try it due to the good review but didn’t feel reassured by the process of trying to make a recovery usb if you “do it later” - the instructions were incorrect and misleading. Of course they are going to advertise products but they sent me to the wrong area to make a recovery usb.

What finished it off was when I finally did make a recovery usb - it became undiscoverable by windows and couldn’t even format it. Had to restart just to get rid of the drive letter. That was not reassuring.

Most keyboards are qwerty based. This layout dates back to manual typewriters allegedly as it minimised the letter arms clashing for fast typists.

It almost certainly is a sub optimum layout nowadays for encouraging fast touch or ergonomic typing.

Interestingly the longest word that can be typed on the top qwerty row is "typewriter".

In that window there's a small tick box to not be shown again ... until the next update. Once again, it's free software and marketing is the name game. Just like most other free software from distributors that offer paid versions.

Sorry, can't accept that as a problem with AOMEI. Not an AOMEI fan-boi by any stretch of the imagination, but what you describe has all the hallmarks of a device error/fault

Just try creating one the normal way ... Tools > Create bootable media > Windows PE (also tick Download Windows PE etc)

Fair enough and yes it’s possible the usb just failed at that moment. It still didn’t give me a lot of confidence though.
