Hi folks
I see VLC plays VH1 video format without issue ad according to the spec VH1 compresses better than HEVC / H265 and also is royalty free. Is this likely to become a mainstream video format or should one just stick to mp4/mkv/HEVC/H265 for the moment.

I don't want to encode a load of stuff in this even if it encodes mega faster and produces smaller files of good quality if it's going to be obsolete soon.

Any ideas ??

Thanks

Cheers

Just my thoughts, I'm sticking with the familiar for now mainly because having come from MS-DOS 5 and Windows 3.1 in '92 the issue back then was storage of files, that HDD was 120MB and year later second upgrade was to 210MB, been getting bigger ever since. Another part of staying put is what I may need to share with others or keep on a USB Thumb drive along with diagnostics, won't know in advance what those 'others' have available. I have 4 computers with different OSes on my Wired Network plus Wireless Notebooks so experimenting could come into play but no need just now.
