Looks like something Stardock would do! You running any 3rd party Start Menu?

Already did that, couldn't find anything. I know that the blue win logo is in system 32 but I don't know how to get it on the taskbar to open the start menu.

It's under the 'start menu style' tab in open shell. If you can't locate it, uninstall open shell and restart. Default blue start icon should be back (unless you have some other app installed that alters the GUI along with classic shell ).

Sorry, but there seems to be a misunderstanding. I'm not talking about the most-left button but the button that opens the start menu, the one on the taskbar.

I have no idea, but maybe uninstall openshell, restart and reinstall?

Please provide a full screen capture pointing to the issue at hand.

Here it is. I'm talking about the button to the right of the explorer folder.

Do you mean the shell? To the left of the buff folder icon? That should be easy enough to change in openshell settings - a number of options for the start button.

Here it is. I'm talking about the button to the right of the explorer folder.
If I'm not mistaken, that is an auxiliary Start button provided and pinned by Open Shell.
You should be able to right click it and un-pin it from the Taskbar, then use middle-click on the Open Shell orb to access same Menu.
If not, perhaps you could right click that pinned button and right click again for Properties and change it's icon from there.

That is not kosher for any basic Open Shell installation I have ever seen. You have added that button either with an Open Shell setting or some other means.

... middle click to bring it back doesn't work.
I meant, middle click on the Open-Shell orb to invoke the native W11 Menu..., or just use the WinKey..., all configurable in Open-Shell settings...

Interested to know what it turns out to be if anyone finds out! Does it actually open the Windows start menu?

macOS (plus VMs: Windows XP, 7, 10 Home/Pro, 11 Home/Pro, Linux Distros)
If I'm not mistaken, the icon represents the old (and preferably forgotten) Windows 8/8.1 Start Screen launcher.

And after a bit of searching just found it shown on one of the menu images on Winareo
