Solved Clean up!

Hi,

Since wasn't getting the 221H2 update ran the latest iso and the W11 Home got updated without any issues, and than 2 updates for it got installed too.

1. Noticed the size of taskbar higher at Lt gradually decreasing towards the Rt corner, is that normal?

2. Used space on W11 has increased from 46 GB to 72 GB. Is the old W11 install still there, if yes where would it be.....

What steps should I take to check and cleanup vs. doing a clean install. (kept my apps, files during install).

Would disk clean up do the job, or do I need to clean install?

CPU usage increased from 1/2% to 25%. Processes from 30 to 75...….. It's a hogger 21H2 was far better IMPO!!

More: Memory with 2 browser tabs 6.3 vs earlier 2.5...…

@Brink , Should I revert back or do clean install? This is useless update.

I need to remove OneDrive and lot other unneeded apps, strip W11. OR switch to Linux. Don't know what MS engineers were thinking...….I don't see any betterment in this update apart from numerical?

There is a big difference between NEED and WISH TO.

You can just ignore apps you do not use.

This and other forums are full of posts about people who went to great lengths to remove apps that did not have an uninstall option, and found unexpected side effects e.g. they could not reinstate them at a later date, or worse, updates go broken etc.

It is easy to remove onedrive - just uninstall it from apps menus.

Switch to Linux by all means, and like Arne, "You'll be back".

A query why such a big increase in disk usage from approx. 48 to 72 GB?

Thanks for the link, did all clean up but still the same used 75 GB. There wasn't any previous W11 temporary installation files.

A simple way to see how your disk space is being used is with a free utility "TreeSize Free". See the link below for more information and a download link.

I would think it's the Windows.old folder.
That can be removed with Disk Cleanup.

Posting attachments, kindly have a look and recommend what to delete. ( (I see Windows old too).

All you need to do is run Disk Cleanup as in the tutorial I linked (Option 1).
Disk Cleanup, knows what to do.

In your screenshot, Windows.Old can be removed and should add 21.8 GB to your disk space. I don't feel it is appropriate to suggest any other items for removal without viewing the folder contents and even with that information it would be better for you to make that decision.

P.S. If adding 2.8 KB would be of any benefit, you could delete the "Recovery" partition. Visit the site below for details.

Yes, to the first question, that will delete the folder and its contents. As I stated, you should check the contents of the folders and decide what you may want to delete. Post back with questions regarding what you select, and I will provide my thoughts.

Just check all the boxes. It won't hurt anything. Disk Cleanup knows what it's doing.
