Solved CPU randomly bottlenecking itself

This has been a problem ever since I first got this computer. It will start bottlenecking CPU power when I have it plugged in when playing games. Is there a permanent solution to this?

If I understand you correctly, my guess is that the CPU is throttling because it is overheating. I suggest monitoring the CPU temperature with a utility. If the issue is thermal, it may be hard to eliminate.

Based on the release date of your CPU, the laptop isn't old. You could try blowing dust out of it, all the same.

Another option is a cooling pad, which would blow more air through the machine.

Have you tried running hardware monitoring software like HwInfo64 on the laptop to give you an accurate temperature reading and much more?

There are many possible reasons for Bottlenecking: power limits, voltage limits, current limits, frequency Limits, heat.

To see if your processor is throttling, and if so, what the reason might be, download the free monitoring Software, HWINFO64, run it concurrently with your game, and post the relavant info sections here.

I looked at my task manager and everytime I had a random (frequent) frame rate drop my CPU would always get slowed down to 5% before returning to normal

Thanks, Ill give it a try. But first, What should I look out for though? I just downloaded it and it looks confusing

I got some results. I attached a screenshot with the throttling values. only 2 of them go off. The weird thing is that if I disconnect my laptop fan these values barely go off.

Thiis means some component other than the processor is overheating (EXT) kicking in the Hardware thermal Control) which throttles by reducing the processor frequency. Don't know what though, you will need to look at the various temperatures to figure out what. It could be components in the Voltage Regulator Module or the memory for example. Various temperatures are displayed by HWINFO64.

It may be that there is inadequate cooling on some component for the game load. But no doubt these thermal conditions are causing the throttling. Can you try to run the game at lower graphics quality etc to see if that makes a difference?

I have also read that some chips on some laptops may have falsely triggered this condition.

CPUs are supposed to throttle if they get too hot.

That's where I would start looking.
Maybe... dust, wimpy thermal paste, blocking the air vents when in use, CPU voltage too high, etc.
