I'm really confused!

I'm running Windows 11 22H2 v.22621.2215, which seems to be the latest General Release; however, the only reference I can find to this version seems to actually be shown as a Preview.

As I said, I'm totally confused.

Is your current version of Win-11 giving you any problems?

Yes, 22621.2215 is an optional preview of the non-security patches that will be in the next Patch Tuesday CU. If you switch on 'Get the latest updates as soon as they're available' then it gets installed automatically, with it switched off you'll still be on last Patch Tuesday's 22621.2134 and see it as an optional update.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

    My SYSTEM THREE is a Dell Latitude 5410, i7-10610U, 32GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro.

    My SYSTEM FOUR is a 2-in-1 convertible Lenovo Yoga 11e 20DA, Celeron N2930, 8GB RAM, 256GB ssd. Unsupported device: currently running Win10 Pro, plus Win11 Pro RTM and Insider Dev, Beta, and RP 24H2 as native boot vhdx.

I see no fuss. Just an inquisitive question. I would be questioning it as well if I saw it, but I do not have that option turned on in WU. Whether our machines are running as expected or not, we like to know why things are as they are.

I ran a little program called "StopUpdates10.exe" that took all the update worries out of life for me. Minus updates is "Cool"!

Now I can give Dean an answer as to why we both got pegged with this early Patch Tuesday Preview. And! I can keep my reputation as an all-knowing Windows 11 guru!

Nahhhhh, I've been telling my students about ElevenForum every chance I get, and this will give them one more reason they should subscribe. I will definitely show them this thread in class next week.

Besides, I'll betcha I'm not the only one who didn't know about the "early Patch Tuesday Preview"! And I'm not too proud to admit it. 😈

I'm very happy with this current cumulative update preview. In fact 'preview' releases have always worked just fine on my two pcs. The only real hassle I have had with windows updates since W10 came out, was with one proper patch Tuesday release, and even that wasn't Microsoft's fault. (It was a problem with Eset A/V). I really wonder about all those people proudly proclaiming that they have the preview releases (or even Windows update) turned off. Seems a bit paranoid to me. (and I have been doing windows updates since Version 1.02)

No, not paranoid. With as many machines as I have my Patch Tuesday is about 8+ hours solid work, I really don't want that bother every other week. There's nothing in the Preview I won't get next Patch Tuesday anyway. ;)

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

It's not only windows - mobile phone, router, Smart devices, all get regular updates, and I don't take any particular precautions before running those updates - often they just happen automatically. At least with Windows, we have backups in case something goes awry.

Yes, I have been there and I feel your pain. Back in the day, when I managed a small network, I always ran the latest update on my home system to check that it didn't make things fall over, and then a few days later roll it out to the work machines.
