Hi Everyone,

I believe I have an issue where my OS installation(s) are being modified by "Desired State Configuration". Using WMI Explorer I can see that Desired State Configuration is present.

I am not part of a network or domain (that I am aware of), and I use my PC for gaming / email.

I have been having issues with OS re-installs where no matter what I do I cannot "flat boot" and even though it seems like I am loading from the DVD, any custom image I try is not what gets installed. A quick check through the registry shows I have Windows Terminal Server installed as a "clone" regardless of the installation media I use. There are multiple services that should not ship with the OS version, namely Group Policy which is always secured so that I cannot manipulate it. Same goes for spooler, dns, task scheduler, and many others. The file versions include files from windows 98 and up. After the OS is installed, then "migration" happens, and a ton of packages and content are downloaded and installed. BTW, I have also been seeing Azure virtual machine information here and there. I mention it because I have never had anything to do with Azure.

It would be fantastic if I'm concerned for no reason, but it's hard to reach that point without the help of folks like you.

I spaced out the WMIC info that seems out of sorts.

A short explanation of how you downloaded the ISO, and what steps were made during installation would help. One thing from the ASUS laptop site is all ROG STRIX models come with W10 (or 11) Pro, and presumably that's licensed in the BIOS.

Which might explain why Home isn't being installed by default. Pro is typical for higher-end PC's.
