I was checking to see if my 2 NVMe drives I have are DirectStorage compatible. But the system says they arent. Here are my drives: ADATA XPG SX8200 1TB O/S),. 2TB Samsung 970 Evo plus (Games only), 4TB WD Black. (User data and programs mainly). I get this incompatible reasons for both NVMe drives: Status: 494 (The specified driver does not support BypassIO operations)

Driver: klpnpflt.sys

Reason: The driver's StorageSupportedFeatures registry value is not defined

Storage Type: NVMe

Storage Driver: Not BypassIo Compatible

Not sure how to solve this. Thanks

How do you test this? I have the same one, As far as im aware no game uses Direct Storage as of yet. I've looked forward to this for ages but haven't seen anything out with it yet so as far as i know, It isn't really in use as much as it is there.

put this in CMD Prompt as admin. Change the letter of the drive you want to check:
fsutil bypassIo state c:\

Mine says my Adata drive is partially supported, it says i have the setting disabled, I'll look about in the bios for the one it mentions and see whats what.

Keep an eye here for updates https://twitter.com/DirectX12

They also only starting rolling it out to DEVS in march i believe. So it might just be its a while away

Mine says "currently supported", "Storage Type: NVME", "Storage Driver: BypassIo compatible".
This is a WD Blue SN570 1TB using Windows built in NVME driver on a B660 chipset.
As far as I am aware there are no settings in BIOS to affect this (doesn't seem related to resizable BAR as this is off in by BIOS), it is down to CPU, motherboard, NVME type (?), OS and drivers all needing to support the feature, then it needs enabling within the software (game) to make use of it through DirectX12.

Not sure how to solve this. Thanks

This is a good example of the antivirus programs with their filter drivers latching in between the storage controller and the respective hard disk.

The named driver klpnpflt.sys belongs to Kaspersky.

In this case you would have to uninstall Kaspersky and possibly also use the Removal Tool to remove the filter driver.

Then try the Direct Storage check again.

Thanks, I believe you are correct. Hopefully an update from Kaspersky will fix this issue. Thanks again.

Hey. If you go into Xbox game bar, Go to settings, then Gaming Features, What does it say there? Everything shows as supported for me other than my 2nd drive which is fine

Same reason for both NVMe drives. I installed the insiders preview of Xbox game. And it was listed there. 😟

UPDATE: After formatting my PC. And not reinstalling Kaspersky. My NVMe drives now show Direct storage ready. So it was Kaspersky that was screwing my drives.
