Solved File Name Change of UUPDump Downloads

I've been out of the Insider Program for awhile, but have decided to get back in at the DEV level.

I went to UUPDump to get the Insider Build and found the following:

Under the DEV Channel tab I found: Windows 11 Insider Preview 10.0.26052.1100 (ge_release) amd64
What I don't understand is the (ge_release).

Under the Windows 11 tab I found 24H2: Windows 11 Insider Preview 10.0.26052.1100 (ge_release) amd64

Obviously, the two are the same.

I downloaded and the ISO was built; using Rufus, I prepared the flash drive for installation. But . . . I want to wait until I know what (ge_release) means and if I'm on the right track.

Just for fun, I tried Copilot, as a Google search wasn't helpful. One result:

"ge_release: The term “ge_release” is part of the version number for a specific build. For example, the build number 10.0.26052.1100 (ge_release) corresponds to a particular iteration of the Windows 11 Insider Preview."

(That wasn't the only try, but the results were basically the same.)

It brings to mind the phrase "not ready for prime time".

My impression is that you can safely ignore the "ge_release" thing, though. Please don't sue me if I'm mistaken.

(I dabble with beta releases, but that's as much of a risk as I'm prepared to take. I don't have a "test" PC.)

Agreed it's not yet ready for prime time, but it's a preview . . . as per usual, Microsoft wants us to play with it and let them know about its gaffs.

However, I've gotten some really good information with it. Guess it's not gonna come through this time, though. Se la vie . . .

Those are names for different development branches for separete Windows version.
- ni_releases were base for Windows 11 versions 22H2 and 23H2
- ge_releases are base for Windows 11 version 24H2

So the "ge_release" bit is, in effect, redundant information.

(And it's "separate", for us pedants.)

Either that or it separates 22H2 and 23H2 from 24H2, which is an Insider Preview for now.

It's short for Germanium, the code name for 24H2.

Windows 11 release branches are code-named after Periodic Table metals.

I wondered about "vibranium" as it's fictional. But it was used.

I hope that they never use "unobtainium" (as in Avatar).

To quibble, germanium isn't a metal. (I have no idea why I'm being so petty today. )

Vibranium is from Marvel's Captain America movie/comic.

I knew. I didn't want to admit that I've seen the MCU movies. (I'm nearly 60 years out of date on Marvel comics.)

It would have been classier if they had used Mithril. (Also fictional, but from Tolkien.)

"unobtainium" is a joke term in engineering. I wonder why Cameron used it in Avatar? (Maybe it was OK for what was basically a children's movie.)
