I cannot turn on firmware protection in windows 11 pro. I have a brand new surface laptop 5 windows 11 pro so it meets all reqs.

I am able to make the Firmware Protection button appear by going into group policy and turning on, enabling, Virtualization based security and all the sub settings. However, once the firmware protection button appears it is now greyed out and marked as these settings are managed by your administrator.

I tried to solve this by disabling windows defender in the registry editor. Also removed third party anti virus. Nothing works.

Anyone have experience with this?

Hello and welcome to the forum. It has been my experience that once any settings are changed in group policy, any setting that the policy affects will be grayed out in settings and that option flagged as 'managed by administrator/organization'. Group policy permissions overrides user permissions.
Do you want to enable or disable firmware protection?

I found this. You might take a look at RAJU.MSC.MATHEMATICS answer in this MS forum thread to see if it applies to you. You would need to undo any GPO changes and start over. Redirecting

Thank you for your reply. Yes it's strange. The only way I can show the button is by turning it on in group policy. Yet when I do it auto greys it out and creates an admisntrator who can only turn it on. This is a catch 22 that I cannot solve. I will give up. I have rest my computer 3 times and it just isn't worth trying it again. But thank you for answering!

Be aware those "Surface Pro" laptops are configured by Microsoft and as such may have closed off / limited settings.

I would suggest you contact Microsoft's support center to see if there's an issue. Or is it just configured that way.
