Hi ,

I have this pc ,

iBUYPOWER Slate 6 Mesh Gaming Desktop, Intel i5-13600KF, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060, 16GB DDR5, 1TB NVMe SSD, Liquid Cooled, RGB, Windows 11 Home 64-bit, SlateMshI5N4602
Robot or human?

The motherboard is ( Msi PRO B760-VC WIFI ) .

I want to add another storage drive ( SSD or HDD ). What’s the best ssd or hdd compatible with the motherboard ? Is it better to add external one or internal?

I would go for a Samsung 970 EVO Plus NVMe M.2 SSD 1TB or 2TB or you could match the drive that is already supplied with that system.

It will attach to the second M.2 connector on the motherboard just below the south bridge heat sink (with Pro Series written on it).

Any HDD drive will work also, just make sure the case can accommodate the 3.5" drive, it should, but you never know ... lol

Thanks for your response. This is the one that is originally attached with the system

Yeah that M.2 drive would be good enough for the job.

If by external you mean a USB connected HDD then yes, you can.

You have lots of choices.

You could add another M.2 drive, as above. It'd give you the fastest performance. The motherboard has no heat sink for its #2 M.2 slot, so you might want one of those. Get a PCI 4.0 X4 drive. M.2 drive sold with integrated heat sinks, and there are third party heat sinks for bare M.2 drives as well.

The next step up with larger capacity but slower performance would be a SATA SSD, in the 2.5" format.

If you need a lot more storage, add a 3.5 inch SATA hard drive. You can get a 16TB drive for around $300US. I'd make sure to get a CMR (conventional magnetic recording) rather than an SMR (shingled magnetic recording) drive. The latter has lower performance.

Samsung 980 Pro Nvme with a heatsink in the #2 Nvme slot and you are good to go. Great performance. I have one as my boot drive and it's awesome.

I wouldn't bother with an external SSD. Slow USB connections make it worse than a standard SATA SSD. Just my opinion, but I don't see the point of putting a high performance drive into an enclosure with a slow USB interface. I know that USB3 is faster than standard USB, but you'll get much more zoom out of putting the drive in your second Nvme slot.

Preferably pcie_E3 if there space beneath the graphics card. Hard to tell from your screenshot.
