BIOS time is really long

Hello! My BIOS time is really long with 57.6 seconds. I don't know why it is that long.

!!! I upgraded everything in my PC besides the Boot-SSD and Storage & it started from there !!!

My specs are: - MB > ASUS ROG STRIX X670E-F
- GPU > Geforce RTX 4090 MSI Ventus 3x
- CPU > AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D
- RAM > Corsair Vengeance 64GB DDR5 6000MHz CL30
- Supply > ASUS ROG STRIX 1000W
- CPU-Cooling > ASUS ROG Ryujin II 360
- Boot-SSD > SAMSUNG 980 Pro M2 1TB

I think my specs should be more than enough. Is the problem in the BIOS or Windows 11 itselve?
I don't have much in AUTO-START & everything works fine besides this issue.
The PC takes like 10 seconds till the F2 BIOS ROG screen and then another like 45 till I see my login screen.

How to really make my PC start fast? It bothers me a lot.

Also: When it's started, I have 2 small freezes every time. What could be the problem there?

Thanks a lot,

Bongoman

do you have any external drives connected to the machine via USB? My box takes a lot longer to boot with an external drive attached.

No, i don't have any external drivers attached. I upgraded basically everything besides my boot SSD and storage and then it just started taking that long.

CSM enabled in BIOS (want disabled).? Those and what I mentioned above can lead to UEFI boot slowdowns.

I don't have either of those options in my ASUS BIOS. Everything I saw under memory was on "Auto".

I've used a couple of Asus motherboards lately. (Z690-E and Tuf X570.) 57.6 seconds is a little long. I was used to more like 40 seconds to the Windows lock screen.

I always disable fast boot in the BIOS settings. If you have hibernation enabled, that would seriously slow things down. Hibernation saves the RAM contents to a system drive, and copies them back at boot. I suppose that you would have mentioned it if you had it enabled, though.

Your MB has the 4 QLEDs. Red for CPU, yellow for DRAM, white for VGA, green for Boot. I've seen a long delay with DDR5 on the first boot (yellow LED lit for quite a while), but not for subsequent boots. Does it spend a lot of time on any LED at boot?

I only build Asus boards and that's one of my pet peeves. One of the issues I've noticed is that if you have 2 or 3 m.2 drives or any other type for that matter, it slows boot time unless you have 3 SN850X or 990 pro and so on. Settings mentioned by @geneo and @bobkn are also settings that can slow boot time. A lot of us also reported slower boot times with USB audio using Realtek drivers but I don't know if that issue has been fixed. I got rid of my ROG Strix with Realtek USB.

Right now on my Z790 Tuf board on cold boot I average about 20 seconds. Fast boot or not Bios or Windows are about the same for me.

    Love fast boots
I have three M.2 drives and three SATA SSD drives and use RealTek on-board audio. I also have a 5 second delay set in my BIOS.

What type of M2s do you have? I have one 980. Idk if that is the problem.

Hi! It's approximately 50 seconds on yellow, 5 seconds on red and 1 second on green. Then the log in screen appears. The F2 BIOS screen appears very late since I disabled fast boot.

Bongoman
I am not certain what you mean by "...2 small freezes..." but if you mean the computer appears to double boot you may need to go into your BIOS to the Advanced tab and look for APM Configuration then enable Power on by PCIe then F10 to save and then exit. I had a problem with a Z590 Asus board and enabling this solved the problem, which while it occurred added greatly to the BIOS time of the computer. A later BIOS update solved the problem permanently so I went in and disabled the option.

The BIOS time reported on this machine is now 11.4 seconds, where when it was double booting was well over 50 seconds.

50 seconds on the RAM check (yellow) seems much too long.

I don't know why.

If it was my system, I 'd try a RAM check. (Maybe starting with the Windows Memory Diagnostic, as it's quick.)

But here is another thing to check if your BIOS has it. Check to see if you have SMART check enabled for your disk drives in BIOS. If it is enabled it will do SMART tests on your drives during boot.
I forgot that I purposefully left that enabled in my BIOS. I disabled it and my reported boot time dropped for 46 seconds to 16 seconds.

Hi! I ran the diagnostics tool and nothing came out of it (thankfully). But it's definetly the RAM somehow then regarding boottime.

Hi! I have disabled this also now. But still, no change in time. 90% yellow light at start which means RAM of what I've heard from someone in this thread.
