Insider KB5018490 Windows 11 Insider Beta Build 22621.746 and 22623.746 - Oct. 13

  • Staff
UPDATE 10/20:

Hello Windows Insiders, today we are releasing Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22621.746 and Build 22623.746 (KB5018490) to the Beta Channel.
  • Build 22623.746 = New features rolling out.
  • Build 22621.746 = New features off by default.

KB5018863 Enablement Package for Windows 11 22H2 build 22623.xxx

REMINDER: Insiders who were previously on Build 22622 will automatically get moved to Build 22623 via an enablement package. The enablement package artificially increments the build number for the update with new features getting rolled out and turned on to make it easier to differentiate from devices with the update with features off by default. This approach is being used for the Beta Channel only and is not indicative of any changes or plans for final feature rollouts.

Insiders who landed in the group with new features turned off by default (Build 22621.xxxx) can check for updates and choose to install the update that will have features rolling out (Build 22623.xxx).

Changes and Improvements in Build 22623.746

[System Tray]

  • This build includes preliminary support to rearrange System Tray icons for Insiders who have the System Tray updates that began rolling out with Build 22623.730. Further improvements for this experience are coming soon. As a reminder, these System Tray updates are still rolling out and are not available to all Insiders just yet. If your PC does not have these changes, your System Tray experience will remain the same as before.

Fixes in Build 22623.746

[Tablet-optimized taskbar]

NOTE: These fixes will only show if tablet-optimized taskbar is enabled on your device. Tablet-optimized taskbar is still rolling out to Windows Insiders and not yet available for everyone.

  • Fixed an issue where the gesture to slide the Start menu open from the bottom of the screen using touch might stop following your finger.

[System Tray Updates]

NOTE: These fixes will only show if tablet-optimized taskbar with System Tray updates is enabled on your device. Tablet-optimized taskbar and System Tray is still rolling out to Windows Insiders and not yet available for everyone.
  • Fixed an issue for Insiders with “automatically hide the taskbar” enabled, where right-clicking app icons in the system tray was unexpectedly making the taskbar dismiss.

Fixes for BOTH Build 22621.746 & Build 22623.746

  • We enabled the ms-appinstaller Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) to work for the DesktopAppInstaller.
  • We fixed an issue that affects the Windows Search service. Indexing progress is slow when you use the service.

Known issues

[General]

  • We’re looking into reports that audio stopped working for some Insiders in recent Beta Channel builds.

[Tablet-optimized taskbar]

  • The taskbar sometimes flashes when transitioning between desktop posture and tablet posture.
  • The taskbar takes longer than expected to transition to the touch-optimized version when switching between desktop posture and tablet posture.
  • When using the bottom right edge gesture to see Quick Settings, the taskbar sometimes stays stuck in the expanded state, instead of dismissing to collapsed state.

[System Tray Updates]

  • [NEW] Dragging the system tray icons may cause explorer.exe to crash for some Insiders.

About the Beta Channel

The Beta Channel will be the place we preview experiences that are closer to what we will ship to our general customers. Because the Dev and Beta Channels represent parallel development paths from our engineers, there may be cases where features and experiences show up in the Beta Channel first. However, this does not mean every feature we try out in the Beta Channel will ship. We encourage Insiders to read this blog post that outlines the ways we’ll try things out with Insiders in both the Dev and Beta Channels.

Similar situation for me -- no Insider update being offered. In my case, I did the update using W10UI.

As reported in the Blog, I just got this crash as shown in the event viewer. Quite easy to reproduce.
As a workaround, to avoid the crash I enabled NotificationAreaIconRearrange: id:38764045. This bug was already reported with Dev Build 25217, now it looks like they propagated the same bug to Beta build 22623.746. 🤣🤷‍♂️

The problem occurs when STTest: id:26008830 is enabled and NotificationAreaIconRearrange: id:38764045 is disabled.
Note that when STTest is disabled, the problem does not occur regardless of the state of the NotificationAreaIconRearrange: id:38764045
because in that case the Rearrange is allowed by default anyway and in that situation, there is no crash. 😉

[System Tray Updates]

  • [NEW] Dragging the system tray icons may cause explorer.exe to crash for some Insiders.

Web Experience Pack just updated and now my Widgets are no longer working correctly. The screen where you select which Widgets to show no longer shows a tick next to it when selected. Anyone else?

What tick are you referring to?
I don't see any difference from before this update.

Click on the plus sign next to the user icon, top right. It will show the widgets you can open, there is a plus sign next to each one. Once selected it used to show a tick. Now it does not.

This replaced my Linux Notebook. I've used Windows since 3.1, tried various Linux distros but Windows wins for me.
