Microsoft - You have requested too many codes

That was the message yesterday - tyry again tomorro0w.

It is now tomorrow and I still get the same message. What can I do? I want to set up a new laptop. I can't even get in it.

Have you ever been in the laptop? Or is this your first boot from purchase, as you mention “new laptop”? This is why I use two factor MS authenticator

That’s easily attainable, but not until you get in.

Sid you try to setup passwordless/pinless entry and this is the result?

Have you tried choosing another option and entered with you Microsoft Account details, if you have any. Is there even another option to sign in available when you’re asked to enter your pin?

Does it show a “Forgot my pin” on the login screen? Or any of this ->

Just this:

What happens if you press “I don’t have any of these”, before requesting your code?
I’d hate to suggest it, but if you’ve only just installed windows and are at pre software loading stage, I’d start over. But I would first log into your MS account via phone or whatever it is you are using to communicate on here to see what other login options you have or can add. I forget the link to those settings. I’ll see if I can find it.

All other options I have read say to contact microsoft support. You would need whatever details you used to create you Microsoft account.

Question; Are you able to log in online to check your mail etc?
Have you requested too many times or only once? Are codes being eaten by your email client spam folder?

3rd screen type in ”can’t log in” and follow the prompts in the result

Yes no problem. Outlook 2021 all codes come through. I requested codes too many times yesterday but got the same message when I tried to reset my password today.

It may possibly take longer than 24 hours, Ive even read 36. Any attempt to login before allowed timeframe would result in another lockout, I can only assume.

The last thing I dud when on the laptop was until the box about requirement to log in.

The only thing is, to get into more advanced settings for account security, they again ask you to confirm your account. So I am not sure it will help.
Apart from everything I have spammed you with, I am not sure what else to try. Anything else that I have found on the net is generic and not very helpful.

Going forward, when you get this sorted. Contemplate setting up the Microsoft Authenticator app for secure logins. Then no mater what else fails, there is always that. Most of the time, the login asks you to confirm what number is written on the screen, which will pop up in your phone through the app, you just select the corresponding number.

Also, did you try post #11 to see if it was of any use for recovering access?

Yes I did and twice I got a code sent correctly to me then it ended at a page that showed my birthday and went no further. I then tried again to reset my password but I got the too many codes sent message again.

Execute the following command from Command Prompt to delete NGC folder.


The NGC folder is where Windows stores your login information. If the folder is corrupted or lacks sufficient permission, it can result in the Something happened and your PIN isn't available error. To fix the corrupted folder, you'll need to delete the folder and let Windows recreate it and you will be able to reset the pin the video shows how it works.

I am trying to reset the microsoft password on my desktop to enable me to then access the laptop. I have no pin or password set up on this PC.
I ran the instruction with an elevated command prompt but got access denied.

When you first install Windows 11 you are asked to create PIN with your Microsoft account i don't know how you removed PIN if you have not then execute the command from Recovery Environment.
