I have a MS Surface book 2 and need to expand with usb hub for remote monitor along with mouse and only have 2 usb ports.

ASUS remote monitor doesn't need any external power.
My surface-2/notebook has mini display port, is there any adapters to go to usb-c to keep usb port free?
Haven't found any yet?

I wouldn't expect to find such an adapter as the purpose of the DP is different from USB, probably would cause some damage. The USB ports provide power to devices plugged into them while the DP may not need it, provides data signal to the monitor which usually has its own power. There's Hubs available for USB ports to get more devices plugged but I make sure what I need are self-powered, reduce power demand from the computer.

Could you clarify what model you have? I attempted to do an online check of the specs of a Surface Book 2. I found two models, neither of which has a mini DisplayPort. Both have a USB-C port that supports video.

As Berton noted, that is a negative. There are USB-C to displayport (including mini displayport) adapters, but not the other way around. This is because a USB-C port is capable of carrying a DP signal, but DP cannot carry a USB signal.

Note that even in that instance (USB-C to DP), not all USB-C connectors support this. The USB-C port must be a "Full Feature" USB-C port that supports DP alternate mode. Not all USB-C ports support this.

    The five 8TB drives and three 512GB SSDs are part of a DrivePool using StableBit DrivePool software. The three SSDs are devoted purely to caching for the 8TB drives. All of the important data is stored in triplicate so that I can withstand simultaneous failure of 2 disks.

Ah yes, very good. The Surface book 3 USB-C port does support DisplayPort 1.4 Alt mode.
