Welcome to ElevenForum.

It's really worth making time to browse through the ElevenForum Tutorial index - there's a shortcut to it at the top of every ElevenForum page [within the Tutorials dropdown list].
- At the foot of the ElevenForum Tutorial index is a shortcut to download it as a spreadsheet.
- I download a new copy each month.
- By downloading it as a spreadsheet I can benefit from Excel's excellent filtering capabilities when I search for topics of interest.
- ElevenForum tutorials are also listed at Tutorials and there's a shortcut to that at the top of every page.

You can search ElevenForum using the search box in the top-right corner of all ElevenForum webpages or using Advanced Search - ElevenForum
- You can also search ElevenForum threads in many general search engines, such as Google, by adding site:elevenforum.com after your search term. For example,
Taskbar setup site:elevenforum.com
- [This is what the search box in the top-right corner of ElevenForum webpages does automatically]

Hello and thank you Denis for the links, it seems, unfortunately, that no real "tool" exists to add / delete elements in the new contextual menu.
How can I find the register corresponding to an item on the list?
For example when I made the Office 2021 update, items have disappeared, how can I add "new word document" for example, delete "Microsoft Access Database" that I would never use? And so-on.
Not easy!
Vincent.

Vincent,

No, it's not easy.
There is a tool that can help a bit with some of the general ones but it is unlikely to do everything you want.
WinAero tweaker
No, it's no use for what you want.

I have only ever removed entries from the Context menu, New section. I have never added them.

I suspect that doing an Office repair might put all Office entries back items in.
Repair an Office application - MSSupport
But you might find that you have to reinstall Office to put all those entries in.

I have a .reg file that removes many of my unwanted entries including my [Windows 10] Office 2007 entries but I have never investigated a version for Office 2021 or for Windows 11.
- I just tried it for Office 2021 & it did not affect the Access or Publisher entries.
- I wrote my original .reg file by searching the Registry for the text that appears in the Context menu, New section and then deleting those Registry entries [after backing each one up]. It was a lot of work. I searched using this NirSoft RegScanner

For Access 2007, all I had to do was remove this Registry entry
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.accdb\Access.Application.12\ShellNew
to remove the Context menu, New, Microsoft access database entry.

With Access 2021, these Registry keys contain Microsoft access database
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\ClickToRun\REGISTRY\MACHINE\Software\Classes\Access.MDBFile]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\ClickToRun\REGISTRY\MACHINE\Software\Classes\Access.Database]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\ClickToRun\REGISTRY\MACHINE\Software\Classes\Access.Application.16]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Access.MDBFile]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Access.Database]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Access.Application.16]
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Access.MDBFile]
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Access.Database]
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Access.Application.16]
so I would start any attempt at removing the entry by checking each key to see which had a ShellNew sub-key.
I would start my experiment by deleting those after exporting each one & making a new system image.

Perhaps you could get some guidance by searching in and, if necessary, posting in the TenForums MSOffice section. ElevenForum does not have one.

Hi Denis, "But you might find that you have to reinstall Office to put all those entries in."
I have already tried without success!
NirSpft RegScanner is a little bit complicated, for me! I need to find a tutorial to see if it's usable for my need.

I need to find a tutorial

RegScanner and Context menu, New.png

1 Run RegScanner

2 In the Find string input box, type in the full text of one of the unwanted entries shown in your Context menu, New list & tick the Case sensitive checkbox. You'll have to repeat this procedure for each entry you want to remove.

3 In the bottom-right, click on every entry in the Scan the following base keys list, as shown.

4 Click on the Scan button.

5 In the results list, Edit, Select all then File, Export selected items and give it a name like NewAccessKeys.txt so you have a record of which keys there are to consider.
You can paste the list here if you want me to comment. I do not have Office 2021 on a Windows 11 computer.

6 Back in RegScanner results, double-click on each lime entry in turn and have a browse within its Registry key so find out if it has a Shell/New sub-key. That will mark that entry as one of interest.

7 If you are going to experiment with deleting any Shell/New sub-keys, first right-click on it & Export it [in .reg format] as a backup before trying anything.

8 If you are going to experiment with deleting any Shell/New sub-keys, you should restart the computer after each change to see if it has made any difference.

9 I suggest that you restore any deleted sub-keys that have made no difference then restart again so you can be certain about any that do make a difference.

It's a lot of work,
Denis

I think you are very much mistaken - I would bet vast majority of W11 users use File Explorer.

Yes possible, I know there is a small tool to switch between both Old & New Context Menu,

Unfortunately this not solve my problem to manage the "New" items list ...

Vincent,

My existing .reg file [designed for Windows 10, Office 2007] does
- remove the Context menu, New, Word & Excel entries for Windows 10, Office 2007
- remove the Context menu, New, Word & Excel entries for Windows 10, Office 2021
- remove the Context menu, New, Word & Excel entries for Windows 11, Office 2007
which makes me think that your [missing] Word & Excel entries are supposed to be in the keys
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.docx\Word.Document.12\ShellNew
and
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.xlsx\Excel.Sheet.12\ShellNew

I suggest you check if you have those Registry keys.
If you do not then you could ask for somebody who does have them to Export as .reg & post them. You should be able to import them.
I do not have any more detail. All my efforts were devoted to removing Context menu, New entries rather than adding them.

I am biased but I do urge you to look for such things in ElevenForumTutorials and only to go further afield if necessary.
Disable Show more options context menu - ElevenForumTutorials
Added a bit later - oh, sorry, your link might be about doing something slightly different. I am not certain and would have to compare it carefully with the tutorial to be sure.

My next port of call is always TenForumsTutorials. They are gradually being transmogrified into ElevenForumTutorials.

Vincent,

I think that is a useful tool for removing entries so I've noted it.
ShellNewSettings - cresstone

What I would do if I got that would be to use it as a tool to make the change I want whilst monitoring the Registry using something like RegShot.
That way, I'd find out what it had altered in the Registry so I could set up my own .reg file [or reg command-based batch file] to do the same job. I would then be prepared for repeating the removal of the entry if a future Windows update / Office update brought it back.
I would try out each desired change on its own so I'd end up with a string of .reg files / reg commands which I'd then string together [this bit is quick & easy].

I've been watching yours & two other Context menu, New threads.
context menu customization- ElevenForum
Restore MS Word & Excel File Types to New Context Menu- ElevenForum
I suggest you post that link to ShellNewSettings - cresstone in those other threads and ask somebody who does have the Word & Excel entries appearing to export & post their
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.docx\Word.Document.12\ShellNew
and
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.xlsx\Excel.Sheet.12\ShellNew
keys.
They might say that other keys are involved as well or instead.
Examining & perhaps experimenting with those .reg files might tell you how to get your desired Word & Excel entries back in your list.

All the best,
Denis
