OneDrive and Office 21

For several years I've been using BT Cloud, a free 1TB of cloud storage provided by my ISP. They stopped offering this to new customers a year or two ago and I think there's a real possibility it could at some point be ditched for existing customers too. I've never used OneDrive but this has got me thinking maybe I should. However when I download it from the Store it tells me MS no longer support it and I can't run it, but it is trying to get me to use Microsoft 365 which I assume includes OneDrive. As I have two installed copies of Office 21 Pro I have no use for Microsoft 365 other than OneDrive and have no interest in paying for it either.

Is there a way around this conundrum? After all both my computers were supplied with OneDrive so I ought still to be able to use it.

EDIT - I've tried the OneDrive tutorials here and tried to reinstall from the Store but OneDrive simply will not reinstall, period. Could be the presence of Office 21 Pro blocking it but I give up.

. . . and I run Office 2021 Professional.

You DON'T need to purchase MS 365 to get OneDrive - it's part of Windows!

@IanMosley is correct...it's part of Windows unless you previously uninstalled Onedrive (which I suspect).
To reinstall it you do not use the store. Use the link in this tutorial.

I've been down that exact route Ian. When it's finished and I hit Start I get the message that Windows no longer supports it and suggests downloading the latest version in Edge but that too ends with same message. Anyway., as it has worked for you, with Office installed, I'll have to have yet another go - but not today ;-)

Yes, I did uninstall it and that's the tutorial I used. Seems something in my Win 10 system is getting in the way somehow. but I will persist. I have no use for it in my Win 11 laptop as no personal files kept on it at all.

A thought - I nearly always do stuff on the Win 10 PC upstairs using RDP and I'm suspecting Win 10 security won't accept these instructions remotely. Next try I will be on the PC.

Sorry it did not work for you. Onedrive being the beast that it is, I always caution folks about uninstalling Onedrive after un-syncing and unlinking from it just in case they ever do want to use Onedrive in the future.. I consider disabling it from auto-starting to be a better option but that's just me. For those bound and determined to uninstall it, I always suggest using an uninstaller like Revo that will scan for and remove remnants.

Here are all the things I know that you can try.

Check that you have no corrupt system files that is keeping you from reinstalling it. Open a command prompt as administrator and type
sfc /scannow
Pay attention to the scan results to see if SFC found anything it could not repair. If it found corruption it could not fix followup with this command (note the spaces)
dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
Restart computer

Open regedit to see if remnants of Onedrive were left behind in your local account. If the following path exists, delete the key, restart, and try installing Onedrive again.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\OneDrive

Enable the hidden administrator account and try to reinstall Onedrive.

If none of the above works:

Whether a repair install would resolve whatever issue is preventing onedrive from reinstalling or not, I can not say. It would be worth a try.

Other that that, I'm sorry to say the only other suggestion I have is to go nuclear (which I know would reinstall Onedrive) with either a clean install or a custom install, both which would require re-installing all your apps,settings and files.

Wow! I'm on the PC and OneDrive is syncing my files. Seems Brink's tutorial has done the trick, though no idea why it didn't do so straight away. Anyway, problem solved and I'd like to thank everyone for the interest and support you have shown.
