Resolving desktop port sound troubles after driver downloads

Hello,

I was in the process of setting up my digital piano through Reaper when I downloaded 2 audio drivers (ASIO4ALL, Yamaha) that I believed would help fix a latency issue.

It did not fix the latency issue, and then caused the surprising problem of not producing any sound when something is plugged into the system aux port. However, the speakers work again when plugged into the aux port in the monitor instead, which is connected to the desktop via display port. This leads me to believe the problem is with the port on the desktop since the system still seems to recognize that audio should be playing and all the settings in device manager and system settings seem to look correct and respond to the sound that should be playing.

Things I've tried:
  • Uninstalling the problem drivers
  • Uninstalling Reaper
  • Disabling, re-enabling, & uninstalling the realtek 2.0 driver, then restarting & reupdating driver
  • Performing a data safe Windows repair, only to get the error "Repair Version of Windows not found, please try again later"
    • Could also use help figuring out why this happened, ugh
  • A few general restarts with my fingers crossed
It's comforting to have found a temporary solution by using the monitor, but it would feel even better to clean up the yucky mess that was made.

I greatly appreciate your time and help!

Welcome to the forum. 3rd party drivers can and do break sound/sound ports if they are not compatible. If the devices you installed drivers for show up in device manager, right click and uninstall. Be sure to check the box to remove driver.
If that doesn't get your sound ports fixed, restore a backup image if you have one or you can attempt system restore to a point before you installed the drivers that broke you.

Hi sandhillcrane and welcome to the Eleven Forums.

First, dump the ASIO4All driver. That is just junk. I would suggest using an audio interface for a sound card. The Realtek isn't going to cut it either, not if you are going to use a DAW like Reaper. This will solve your latency and give you the output(s) you need. If you are a little serious, shop around and you will find pretty good deals nowadays.

Kind regards,

tecknot
