Solved sfc

Hi all, i think i have another problem with this windows 11 upgrade.
i just tried to run sfc /scannow and i get a short flicker of my screen and nothing happens.
do i have to do something before i can run this??

any help appreciated

You have to run command prompt as Administrator.

How did you try to run it? Sounds like you tried the Win+R run command box.

The correct way to run it is to first open a Command Prompt (Admin) or Terminal as an administrator, type the command there, then press Enter.

yes, i used the run command box .
i am running the above BAT file now and it tells me that dism is restoring the health now.

See Option One in the tutorial. The first step tells you how to open an elevated Windows Terminal (that's Terminal run as an administrator)

yes, that is what i did, i clicked on windows Terminal (Admin) and i get a popup telling me Windows cannot find WT.EXE

All of the Tuneup plus results were good.

the next problem is with windows Terminal see above. and this is just trying the basics. i have no idea on what else is going to pop up in the future. i only upgraded 2 days ago.

Were you able to open administrative command prompt without problems?

It sounds like something went badly wrong with your upgrade. Rather than trying to fix everything that went wrong, you may be better off going back to Windows 10. Then after reviewing the upgrade tutorials here on Eleven Forum you could try upgrading again. You have 10 days after the upgrade in which you can switch back to your previous Windows.


The 10 day limit can be extended, but only before the 10 days are up.

If you can open administrative command prompt then copy and paste:

dism /online /get-osuninstallwindow

dism /online /set-osuninstallwindow /value:60

These are additional methods to open administrative command prompt:

run into another snafu, having had problems with defender, Brink suggested i try a repair install. it did nothing to solve the problem, but now i tried to go back to win 10 but it did not go to win 10, i am still in win 11. it was telling me that it will restore the previous version of win, but did not. I do have a Reflect backup and shall try that later.

You only go back one step at a time. You went back to the Win11 as installed before the in-place upgrade. You should find that you can now go back from this to the previous Windows, that would be your Win 10.

Good for you, Reflect has been the saviour for many of us.

I tried to go back again, but now the option "go back" is grayed out, no luck.

When you had upgraded from Windows 10 to Windows 11 it had created a Windows.old.
When performing an in place upgrade repair it deletes the prior Windows.old.
Then there is no longer an option to move from Windows 11 back to Windows 10 using the Windows.old that had been created during the upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11.
