Hello forum people I bring you a frustration so you can share the pain.

The Laptop is not going into Standby when Viber is in the taskbar.

The laptop is getting hot and is in some sort of connected standby even though I turned that off.

How to fix, what is the laptop doing, and why?

Who to blame and for what specifically? Pitchforks ready.

PS C:\Users\VIP> powercfg -a

Hi,
You can also run this command: powercfg.exe /SleepStudy to see what's preventing your pc from sleeping properly.

it now shows S3 is available however this Legacy Kernel thing looks like a malware that Microsoft put in the OS because they are utterly incapable of driving large software projects making decisions or caring about what the result of their work is at all for which they will burn in hell most probably:

After leaving the system for 15 minutes this time instead of resuming from standby - it rebooted and unclean shutdown was reported in the eventlog.

I should totally be using Linux.

But I need this laptop to survive I need to make some money with it.

Happened again, the power button was blinking but nothing was waking the laptop from standby. I pushed it normally the same way it wakes from standby normally (did not hold it) and the OS started from boot up again.

Why I have to pay for a new laptop when I will have so much problems with it?

I give up I change my profession to a cowboy or something.

The Laptop is not going into Standby
Because it is, as the initial PowerCfg -a results show, an S0 modern standby computer then it enters S0 modern standby when Power options turn the display off.
You can check transitions between power-sleep states in Event viewer.
You can set up an Event viewer, Custom view that lists them.
You can import the Power - Sleep-Hibernate-S0 transitions Custom view I use for this - Import Custom view - #4 - TenForums [read from the line starting with I suggest through to that beginning On a similarly confusing note]
This Custom view definition works in both Win10 & Win11 and in both S3 Sleep computers & S0 Modern standby computers.

After doing it exactly as shown here Enable or Disable Modern Standby Network Connectivity in Windows 11 Tutorial

it now shows S3 is available
The results of that change can be misleading.
If the PowerCfg -a results now tell you that S3 Sleep is available, it ought really to merely tell you that the computer is configured for S3 Sleep use. It does not mean that S3 Sleep is "available", that it will work correctly.
I have experienced a computer that became totally unusable after disabling S0 Modern standby despite checking that the PowerCfg -a results said S3 Sleep was available. I had to restore its prior system image to use it properly again.
the power button was blinking but nothing was waking the laptop from standby
And I also experienced this symptom. In my case the only way to get the computer 'on' again was to disconnect then reconnect external power and then hold down the power button to force shutdown so that I could then start it.

If you do re-enable S0 Modern standby then you can turn off Connected standby if you want. You mentioned having done so but did not say how.
Enable or disable Modern Standby connectivity in Windows 10 and Windows 11 - ElevenForumTutorials

If you do re-enable S0 Modern standby then, if you want to use Task scheduler, set Power options, Sleep after ... to Never and never use Start, Power, Sleep.
These precautions prevent S0 Modern standby from sliding into one of its later phases in which user-defined Task scheduler tasks are inhibited.
This is discussed in Running scripts during S0 Modern standby - my post #86 - ElevenForum
And you might also be interested in Power consumption in S0 Modern standby and S3 Sleep - my post #85 - ElevenForum
My tests did not involve any email or WU installing any updates. I was unable to measure any difference in power consumption between Connected & Disconnected [S0 Modern] standby.

I used to dislike S0 Modern standby.
I don't any more.
Since setting Power options, Sleep after ... to Never I have been able to use my S0 Modern standby computers as I wish.

Best of luck,
Denis
