I have two PC's on a network, both connected through a router that also connects them to the internet. I also have a NAS.

There is a problem with one of the PC's.

I can not say for internet speed, but the local network, when I try to transfer a file from the NAS, within seconds the transfer speed will drop to zero. After a few seconds, it will make some sort of recovery, and then drop to zero again. It keeps repeating this until after a random amount of time it just stops transferring altogether.

No error is reported and nothing checks out as wrong, no matter what test I do. During the transfer the internet appears to work OK, up until all network traffic stops completely, then I seem to have to reset the PC to get everything working again.

No errors are reported at all.

Everything seems to check out on the adapter.

I have checked Windows and everything is fine. My other PC is fine. The NAS is fine. I can copy the same files to the other PC no problem at all. Everything points to one PC being the issue.

The problem is, I can't find out what the issue is.

Is it possible that this could be a hardware problem that isn't reporting any errors?

I would running a wireshark capture during the transfer attempt is going to be your best bet to troubleshoot this issue.

I'm sorry, I forgot about this post, and have solved the problem.

It turned out to be the SSD I was copying the data to. Not exactly sure what was wrong with it, it passed all tests, except a performance test. A performance test failed with an unknown error. Probably there was something wrong with a controller chip responsible for writing data (that's a guess because there was no real way to tell.). I replaced the SSD and everything is now working fine.

@Pocah No worries, there's nothing wrong with the drive. If you are copying from a HDD/NAS, to an SSD, then it's going to do that. It does when I copy from an HDD to my M.2 NVMe. .
