Hello, I am new to win 11and I need help. I bought a new laptop (Lenovo) and it came with Windows 11 S. I was unaware of this, my mistake by lack of due diligence.
I have disabled the S and now I should be running Win 11 home, as indicated on my system info. My problem is that I have a successfully downloaded program that will not see make an internet connection when I try to install it. I have disabled the firewall already. I have a screenshot of this failure, which I will try to include. Any help will be greatly appreciated. OtisWoe.

I'm off to bed now and someone else may reply but it helps mightily to know the name of programs giving issues. Most of us volunteers run many different programs, some new, some from Win10 and some older. My latest 4-mo. old Notebook is an inexpensive HP with Win11 and included Microsoft 356 [Office], it was an S and I also changed that, not having any issues yet.

Hello @OtisWoe and welcome to ElevenForum. :-)

The problem is that in S mode you can only install programs from the Microsoft Store. :(
Switching from S mode to Win 11 Home is free.

To post a screenshot on this forum...

1. Take the screenshot, edit it as desired, save to your desktop as .png or .jpg (max. size = 2MB)
2. Left click in your post, where you want to place the screenshot.
3. Click the Attach Files button at lower left, browse to your pic and click Insert.
4. After clicking Insert, I usually choose the Thumbnail (smaller) option, or the Full Image (larger) option.

If the "new" PrtSc key function is not to your liking... here is how to set it back to it's classic function...

Thank you for your answer, Berton, I am trying to load multiple games from BigFish Games, after successfully downloading them from the Bigfish web site they each fail to install. A box comes up saying no connection. I tried to include a screenshot, but I guess I failed at that too. I will try again to send screenshot. I lso have access to the internet as I am communicating on this forum.

Ghot, thanks for your reply, I have already gotten out of "S" mode and running home version.sodapdf-converted(1).jpg

Assuming you're really ON Win 11 Home... then it's probably just the Windows firewall, blocking the connection.
You'll have to allow the game installer, in the Windows firewall.

In the Taskbar search box type: winver and post a screenshot of that please.

It'll look like this. If it shows your email at the bottom left... blank that out...

Just for future reference (read these later)... here's some things that you may find useful...

Yep... it's probably the Windows firewall.
You'll have to add an exception for the Big Fish game's installers.

Someone else will have to help with that. I use Bitdefender firewall. :(

In Bitdefender it tells me when the firewall is blocking some program and tells me where the file being blocked... is located.
So I can then just add it to the allowed list.

Unfortunately, I've never used the Windows firewall.

You can just turn off the firewall temporarily.

If you want to alert someone that you are talking to them, do one of two things...

1. Quote their post... lower right corner quote button.
2. Or add an "@" symbol before their account name, like so... @OtisWoe

Welcome to the forum. Old article but look at Step 5 here "Unblock Big Fish Game App" Problems Downloading or Installation Failed

It says to add the following exceptions to your firewall. These files can be found in the bfgclient folder, which is located in the Program Files (x86) folder of your C: drive.
  • bfgclient.exe
  • bfgprocess.exe
  • bfggameservices.exe
To add exception to windows defender firewall:
settings>privacy and security>windows security>firewall & network protection>allow an app through the firewall>change settings
If BigFish Games is in the list select it. If it's not select "allow another app" and browse to the above files to select them.

glasskuter, thank you for your reply. My firewall is off and there is no option or reference to big fish as it has never activated because the computer will not let it access the internet. I can download from the web, but I cannot install the Big Fish game manager or multiple Big Fish games that I have tried.

For some uses there is no operating difference between the Pro and the Home editions, both tend to run or not run the same programs. I use both editions and for my needs Pro would not be necessary, just are what the computer came with.

I'm curious, Otis. Have you encountered issues when installing any other application? Let me state the obvious. I'm assuming you have restarted.
More things to consider.

According to Big Fish the Game Manager app is supposed to automatically install when one of the games is installed. Have you tried installing Big Fish Games app separately (before you install a game) Download the Big Fish Games App (Game Manager)

Something else I found that blows me away in an article from Big Fish dated 11 days ago...its browser requirements. For Windows, no where does it mention any browser other than Internet Explorer being compatible with Big Fish. Whaaat??? This makes no sense. If you are using Firefox, see if the same issue exists when using Edge. (it probably will)
Big Fish Games App Browser Requirements

You say you have disabled firewall. I assume you mean Windows firewall. What anti-virus do you use? There is a possibility it also provides a firewall. Completely disable any and all AV, whether that be Windows Security or 3rd party
..
(I agree that there was probably no reason to install Pro although it is great to have for certain functions)

Hello, Again I thank all. I have solved the problem. My ISP(Spectrum) was blocking the access to Big Fish on this new computer. I have had no previous problem with any other computer or tablet, go figure! I have downloaded at least 75 games before through Spectrum with no problems before. Thanks to all who answered my inquiry, OtisWoe.:-)👍
