I've been using Windows pc's since 7, but am not very technical. I've had a ms account **@live.com since. Used that ms account for several pc's since. PS: only email done IMAP with 3rd party ISP. Was a OneDrive user with those too. Got a custom built OEM pc not long ago. With help from here and builder clean installed Windows 11 Pro, but never thought about getting a new microsoft account. Until NOW. I think that the OEM had Windows activated via the UEFI. Had 365 Basic plan setup. Now I bought boxed 365 Personal plan to use. It says I can use existing ms account or create a new one.

I'd like to create / use a new ms account to use for current pc / boxed 365. Ditch old email ms account. Create new ms account (probably outlook.com) user and start from scratch. Is that best? Is a clean install best? Would my Win 11 Pro still activate? Etc., etc. Looking for guidance.

Thanks in advance.

I still have and use a hotmail account, I also have 4 live accounts that were related to Xbox profiles for the family, years ago. They still apparently work.

You could create a new Outlook.com account (wise), and if concerned about emails you might still receive in the other accounts, go into the settings of your live account and add a redirect to your shiny, new, you beaut, Outlook.com account

As confirmed by your posts I know my live account currently works and could easily remain for more years. However, I am still looking for advice about how to switch my computer off the live.com account and on to a outlook.com account. A single start over account. I probably need to mention I want to reuse my old iPhone number attached to it also.

I found this idea regarding local accounts on the forum that might relate,

switch microsoft accounts

It seems like a good idea keeping the live.com account till I get this pc on the new outlook.com only whatever approach. Can I use the same phone for both accounts?

If your live account is associated with your Windows 11 and is already in there, I believe you can:

in your current Microsoft account (ONLINE) — Change your primary email address, navigate to the "Manage" page in your Microsoft account. Click "Add Email" and "Add Alias" (your new address) on the Manage page, then click "Make primary."

Don't know how I did it but pasted the wrong URL. Try this:

Yes, that signs me into live.com where I want to end up is at accounts.microsoft.com believe.

Doing more research I see microsoft is confusing me between accounts (e-mail address) and devices (my pc's). And I have the same account (live.com) on two devices ( computer Desktop and Computer Laptop). When I just logged into my live.com on the web it says I can edit the e-mail address I use for my ms account. But if I change that there doesn't it mess up logging into my pc devices? I also saw somewhere on microsoft I can have ANY e-MAIL ADDRESS for my account.

I am so sorry, but I seem to be getting more confused about what and why to do.

I appreciate all the help still.

Yes, you were already ahead of me, but I am now confused more. What happens to OneDrive and 365 subs if I change that?

Going there I see I already had a secondary ****#isp.com address. I also now see I can make it primary, but does that also switch how I log into boyh computer? And how does it keep Onedrive straight? Finally, what do I do about the boxed 365 Personal sub and code card license?

When changing your primary email address online, all you should have to do in regards to your PC, is now login with your new email address and password

That I cannot answer I am sorry, as I don’t use OneDrive. But I assume it goes with the flow of your Microsoft account? It’s all related, there isn’t a separate login for your OneDrive, is there? It just operates (I’dimagine)reflecting your MS account.

Please wait for someone who uses OneDrive to inform you 🙏

That’s fine, you should be able to have as many “Alias” accounts as you like, you just need to mark/make the email account you want as your main Microsoft account, as the “Primary”

Your current OneDrive is linked to your current Microsoft Account. If you make a new Microsoft account to start over, you are also starting over with a new OneDrive.

I've had the same Microsoft Account for many years and OneDrive since it was first implemented. When Microsoft 365 was introduced, I subscribed and have a Terabyte of OneDrive on all my devices. I log in to my only Microsoft account from any of my 5 different devices and all have the same OneDrive files available.

But what if you’re not starting a new Microsoft Account but just changing the Primary Email address for the current account? Wouldn’t it just reflect onto OneDrive accordingly?

    …still on a horse.
But what if you’re not starting a new Microsoft Account but just changing the Primary Email address for the current account? Wouldn’t it just reflect onto OneDrive accordingly?
Yes, you will still have the same Microsoft Account and the same OneDrive.

Yes, that is all true, but what do I do about my boxed 365 Personal License Key (eg: 1QQ4q-etc.). that is already paid for a year and my current monthly charged 365 Basic. Won't that get all uncounted or mixed? The box says:

1. microsoft365.com/setup
2. Sign in with Microsoft Account or Create a New One.
3.
Enter 25 character License Key .
4. Follow screen instructions till finished. (Hopefully better than some of whats on the web!)

Also, what if I switch account Primary e-mail (live.com) and alias (isp.com)? Does OneDrive already installed on devices with live.com and user name c:\user\xxxx5 where my original account was xxxx5QpQpQp@live.com get everything all mixed up? on the computers(Devices)??

Your last post confuses me. Is my Microsoft Account the same with old live.com or same with new isp.com email?
Do I sign into same account on web with isp.com?
Login to computer with isp.com? Seems like since I got the this computer I've always had to use a PIN though I'm curious to try.

What I'd really like to have is everything the same as before with live.com user account and add a new separate isp.com user on the same computer(Device) with it's own 365 Personal 1TB OneDrive plan but don't think that's how microsoft likes computers to work. More computers less sharing them.

I'm understanding more and hoping everybody will get me to complete. Thanks again so far.

When changing your primary email address online, all you should have to do in regards to your PC, is now login with your new email address and password
That is very encouraging but before I switch please read my previous post questions.

I don't understand what a boxed 365 license key is. Microsoft 365 is a subscription product, and I've never heard of it's being available as a boxed license. Where did you buy this boxed 365 and what did it cost?

Those are both very good questions Gary. The shrink wrapped box is an official Microsoft 365 Personal, 1-person, 12-month subscription plan. I bought it at the Apple.com Store for $69.99, but could have bought it at many other authorized resellers like BestBuy.com. Search there and you'll see exactly what it looks like.

Inside was a a 25 character Product Key with instructions to go to microsoft365.com/setup to start.
Here I would login to current or create new microsoft account, enter Product Key and follow instructions.

I just looked at Accounts in Settings on my pc. I could upgrade my plan from Basic to Personal, but think it would not take my paid key and just add $70 to my sub. In the same place I could hit Manage taking me to ms account where I could redeem a code. Not sure, but more likely what I need. Same Page I could choose a different plan.

What I'd really like is TWO separate ms account each with own365 Plan on my same computer> Not sure how that would work, Idea??

Why would you want this? Not that it’s my business but…?

When you change your email address and password EVERYTHING that was previously linked to that email & password changes to the new email and password.

Good question antspants. You got to the heart of what I'm trying to do:

I guess what I really prefer is keeping my live.com as is and adding a second isp.com ms account user with their own 365 Personal plan. But that would be two ms accounts/plans on one device which seems to be where I'm stuck. So I guess my second choice is new msaccount e-mail to current device then changing 365 plan.

I found this on Microsoft website: changes to 365 email

I also just found this using 3rd party email address as alias

It appears buying the plan from Apple dumps managing (support?) to Apple who I'm sure will not. Just like microsoft blames oem who blames Microsoft ending in zero support.

Well I'm glad I'm finding some of this out here in eleven that I cannot find answers elsewhere. So Please keep questions and answers coming before I finalize trying something
