Which DNS server to use for OpenVPN clients?

So I need an internal DNS server if I understand correctly, otherwise the hostname of the file server won't be resolved thru DNS. ie if I want to access shares by \\NASName\Share, I'll need to put an internal DNS server in the config file. Since this hasn't been done, I can only access shares by \\NAS_IP\Share

If I don't have DNS server set up on my Synology, and this is not an AD environment, which DNS server do I put in the config file?

Why do you need DNS? Edit the hosts file on your mother's PC. Done.
Code:
192.168.0.199 NASName

That indeed does work BUT I don't think that's a "technologically elegant" way to do it. That's the reason why I "refuse to do it". This wouldn't happen on an enterprise network since they have AD and DNS servers. In fact for AD to work, you need DNS, non-negotiable.

Can I not do something similar to that on my own network? Without having AD and DNS servers running via Windows Server OS. Like, can't I use the gateway IP for this, which is the same as the DNS Servers when I type ipconfig /all into cmd?

This is why you don't get more quality responses. You always prefer the most expensive solution to any question.
Host files still work in a DNS environment.

I wouldn't say "most expensive" solution, I just want it to be "technologically elegant". Imagine editing the host files in a business environment,I don't think sysadmins would be willing to do that... or am I incorrect?

Editing the host files is a workaround, I think, not an actual solution. I think one learns the most effectively by solving the issue instead of working around it.

You started multiple threads about your mother's PC. This is a specific case where a VPN tunnel is provided to your home network. Unless your NAS randomly switches IP's, then it keeps a static address. The client PC doesn't need to know more, because the VPN hides the need to expose anything to DNS.

For someone who wants to join IT, you haven't learned your employer always favors lower cost and complexity over geekiness. Simplicity is prized, because there's always more work to do.

I don't really care what my employer wants. I'm in a position in life where I no longer have to work for money. I work in IT and will be working out of boredom and passion. The moment my direct or C-level boss or anyone superior to me in the enterprise hierarchy p-i-sses me off, I'm leaving.

I've recently finished learning MDT out of boredom and passion. However I also came to the realization I don't need MDT in my own environment because NTLite does everything I need. Why would I need MDT to pull the chassis type from WMI and inject it into the OSDComputername variable as a prefix?

Are you behind the non-answers to my emails sent to Nuhi? I mean I've automated the sending of emails periodically so until I stop the script, I'll be sending those emails non-stop every day till I get an answer to them. Just thought I'd enquire if you are here.

You're banned because of your posting behavior. I'll leave it as that.

I know I'm banned on the forum but I was referring to my emails. I'll go ahead and assume it's you behind the non-response to the emails, too.
