Windows 11 snap-layout problems

Is there a way to disable Windows Snap Layout?

My Win11 computer is a laptop with a single outboard screen (currently). The 'switch' between the small laptop screen and the larger HP screen is odd with the window being moved suddenly becoming LARGER than full screen and as the cursor continues to be moved settling down to a size proportionately smaller than the larger screen.

The reason I brought up the Snap windows question is because, under Win11 ( I only have one Win11 computer, and have never experienced it with my multi-screen Win10 computers) is that I cannot use my Screen Saver SnagIt on this machine. When I tell it to capture, the large screen turns completely white (the white that happened when I went to the Snap Window screen).

Turning off Snap Windows does not improve the situation. The large screen still turns white and SnagIt still captures nothing.

What is it you are trying to capture when using it? Web pages? Some websites run a script to prevent captures.
Is the screen turning white or is the resulted capture white?

What security (anti virus) software have you got running? I think I recall you saying you use Kaspersky.
Look for a setting in Kaspersky that may prevent screen captures.

Add “Snagit32.exe” “SnagitEditor.exe” to your security software safe applications. See if that helps.
You could also try turning off “Safe Money” in Kaspersky to see if that helps. In fact try that first.


What version of Snagit are you running?

I'm always trying to capture a selected area of the screen and/or of a window on the screen.

White Question: The large screen turns white. The SnagIt screen that shows up with a cursor (left-click starts a snag; right-click is equivalent to "I no longer want to take a picture")
- The cursor normally appears TopLeft of all active screens. (this is where the laptop sits)
- (Assuming that the cursor screen has appeared somewhere...)
- Left click to big screen (right of the laptop) captures white (not what might exist below it).
- Left click to laptop screen will capture a larger version of what exists on that screen.


Incidentally, the orientation pictured in this diagram IS THE EXACT OPPOSITE OF THE WAY THE SCREENS ARE ACTUALLY PLACED!
I CANNOT POSITION THEM OTHERWISE AND HAVE THE CURSOR TRAVEL FROM THE small screen to the LARGE SCREEN in a smooth left-to-right direction.

Security: Windows Defender. On a side issue having to do with all my intermittent Internet problems (I have not been back to that still overwhelming topic because that ball is now in my isp's court)...Can you recommend another app program that I can use (not that I can install as a substitute, or as a multi-month/year rental [like Norton, McAfee, etc. ]) to independently check for viruses?

I think jumping from one issue to the next in a thread you start causes confusion.

Now it is an antivirus recommendation.

There is nothing wrong with Windows security software, and it’s free.

- Select Start , then open Settings . Under Privacy & security , select Virus & threat protection.



- Under Virus & threat protection settings, select Manage settings, and then under Exclusions, select Add or remove
- Select Add an exclusion, and then select from files, folders, file types, or process. A folder exclusion will apply to all subfolders within the folder as well.

I am not saying this will work regarding snagit, but it’s worth a try.
I don’t know what version of snagit you are using, but you will need to add “Snagit32.exe” “SnagitEditor.exe” to the exclusions to try this out.

I know there are people who speak badly of Kaspersky, but if you shop around, you can get it extremely cheap. Kaspersky support is excellent, they are polite and stick with you until an issue is resolved.

If you purchase Kaspersky Premium, you also get an unrestricted VPN software license. I always buy the 5 devices ones, they have many choices.

When this site has specials, I buy multiple licenses which can be added to Kaspersky one at a time, when the first runs out it starts using the next one. I have protection from Kaspersky for the next 10 years for 5 devices with VPN software. It also comes with password protection software (but I don’t use it) All up, when it was on special at the below site, I paid under AUD$50 for all the licenses. That’s probably around USD$35.

How do I do this in Windows Defender?

SnagIt is version 9.1.3. It is an old version but works perfectly well in every non Win11 context situations. I would buy it in a minute if I knew it worked. So many things (you know it as well as anyone) have been going wrong that I'm very nervous about spending big bucks to address any prospective solutions (none of which, thus far, have worked).

I know one other person who uses it and I reached out to him in a Win11 Conversation. Do you also use SnagIt?

I might consider it (based on your recommendation) if it turned out my problems had any connection with viruses. (Remember it is my isp that brought the virus issue up, not me, nor anyone from this forum.)

After trying the exclusion thing, If this only happens on the external monitor. Go into settings and set the DPI or the magnify, (I forget which) as 100% not the 150% it often pre sets to. See if that helps.

Try the 100% thing.

I don’t think Win 10 or 11 is supported by snagit version 9, so yes, try setting it to 100%

With a 5 license purchase (or any from Kaspersky for that matter) they dont care how many different computers you put it on, as long as there is only “5” or whatever the license allows, at a time. You can swap and change it to any computers you like. You can go into your online portal and remove one computer and add another.

@Edwin uses a capture software that he swears by, Ill look to see what it is.

Jro sometimes jumps from one issue to another in the same thread. I don’t think he means it but it happens.

The issue is that when trying to capture a screenshot with the software, Snagit, his screen turns white making it unable to capture.

Jro thought it was due to the “snap” function in windows. - negative
- It may be related to security software (windows defender) - add exclusions for snagit may work
- Changing the DPI to 100% as apposed to the default 125/150% might work
- It may be related to the fact that snagit v9 is not built to be used with windows 11 and is unsupported by Techsmith.
