Hi, I pray someone here can help me. I have a folder on my PC desktop(Latest public release Windows 11) of the ADB tools i guess. I right click in the open folder window and open in Terminal so the terminal window opens. I then connect From my PC to my Android TV via terminal using this command.."./adb connect 192.168.1.1xx", and then I place an android APK in that same folder, copy the full name of the app I want to install on my TV from my PC using this command...."./adb install (name of apk
). It has worked flawless to connect this way and sideload apps until this recent windows update. Now i cannot get my adb to connect at all. It starts connecting and will say Daemon connected successfully but then shows my whole line of code saying it cant connect as it timed out yaddie yah. Anyone know what happened and how to fix

You're running 22h2. You are a year and a half behind. You might want to consider upgrading to 23h2 to see if it affects the issue.
In case you do not know MS is ending support for Android apps March 2025. https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/ne...g-off-the-android-apps-in-windows-11-feature/
I dont use android apps on my PC. I just install them from my PC to my Android/Google TV via ADB thats all. And yes I do need to Update. Ive been waiting for 23H2 to happen for me but no luck. I might as well wait for 24H...isnt that suppose to happen in the next few months?

Download 23H2 iso, mount it as a drive, run setup.exe.

I regularly do this to maintain Kodi on an Android TV and a couple of boxes. It would be helpful if you were to copy/paste the session from the Terminal window, so we'd know what the exact error messages were. My best guess is that you're not using a static IP for your TV, and it changed since the last time you did this. Either that or you made a mistake typing in the IP address. Typing a bogus IP address gives me a message like this:

Batch:
T>adb connect 192.168.50.200
* daemon not running; starting now at tcp:5037
* daemon started successfully
cannot connect to 192.168.50.200:5555: A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond. (10060)

So, the version of Windows should be irrelevant to this discussion. As long as you have the correct SKD Platform-tools from the Android Dev pages (specifically here), you should be fine.

As someone who routinely uses adb to perform updates on multiple Android phones (Google Pixel models specifically), I know that, as long as you have a connection available, and adb sees it is there, it should just work. I do most of mine via direct wired, but in your case, I can see why doing it over Ethernet might be necessary.

The whole line of code that is shows after connecting successfully is going to be important here, as well as making sure that you do, in fact, have the latest platform-tools.

If you can, please take a screenshot, or else copy the text from terminal and paste it here in a reply in a code box so we can see what is going on.

Also helpful will be to note what version of the Android TV is on your TV, and if you have the Developer Options --> USB Debugging setting enabled or not (if it recently had an update, you may need to re-enable that).

Correct I do not use a static IP. I figured out whats happening. If I delete my VPN app on my tv I can connect to it just fine, but then I have to reinstall etc the VPN afterwards. Im just miffed by it because I just moved and when I lived at my old place, I could leave the VPN app turned on, I would ONLY disconnect the VPN app on my PC but regardless I could connect to my PC via ADB always. Just since moving here I cannot connect at all anymore nless I totall delete the app on my TV and unplug and restrat my TV. Then it works but I dont wanna keep uninstalling my VPN app..I can allow apps through the VPN which one would I allow for my ADB to work both ways from my tv to pc without having to UNinstall the VPN app on my TV? That would be the easiest to return my functionality to what it was. Thanks
I have a Hisense Android/Google TV a year old only. Its running Android 11. And yes I have developer options enabled and the USB debugging is Enabled.

I don't use a VPN with my TV or Kodi devices, but I do have PIA (Private Internet Access) installed in a VM on my main PC. It has a switch "Allow LAN Traffic" that lets the VM connect to network shares. I don't have experience with other VPNs that provide more granular access as yours seems to do, so can't offer any help on that, sorry. However, if your VPN has a kill switch enabled, I think you'd have to turn it off.

Also, I have no idea what you mean by using adb "both ways" or "connect to my PC via ADB". I only know about running adb on my PC to connect to Android devices.

Finally, if I understand you correctly, you're running VPN on both your PC and your TV. Can you run it on your router instead? I know my Asus XT8 has a whole tab in its settings devoted to VPN.

Yeah, try allowing adb through the VPN and see if that helps. You probably only need to add it to your TV's incoming, as you (most likely) don't use adb from the TV to your other devices, right?

May want to allow it on a specific port, and then amend your original attempts at connecting to use that specific port only, to help keep it locked down (and if you go this route, I suggest using a port that adb does not use by default, since using the default port doesn't really lock it down much).

Give that a shot and let us know.

Ok but how do i let ADB through my tvs VPN? Sorry Ive been in programming and am pretty good with electronics, I just dont remember ever seeing anything for ADB in the tv anywhere except in developer options. I will look in a bit here.

Only thing in DevOps that you need to enable is USB Debugging - that allows the TV to be manipulated by adb (and since it works with the VPN uninstalled, you already have that part done).

As for the VPN, you'll (probably) need to allow local access from your network, but knowing which VPN you're using would probably help guide you in the right direction - check their help pages / support / forum to see if anyone else has run into this (or a similar) issue with regards to local access to see if there is a solid method already in place on how to allow local device access.

Might need a simple open port, might need something more complex.
