Hi,

Hope you can help.

MS tried to upgrade my PC to 23H2 today and now I get the BSOD.

I have used another ms tablet to download the create media, and then create a bootable usb.

Putting this in the pc, and choosing repair, and startup repair I get, couldn’t repair your PC

I click on Advanced Options, troubleshoot, which takes me back to the advanced options page.

I then try uninstall feature update and get We ran into a problem and won’t be able to uninstall the latest feature update of windows.

I try the System Recovery Image, but it can’t find that either.

So then I thought stuff it, I’ll have to do a clean install,

I get setup is starting, I don’t have a product key, (it’s on the PC), choose win 11 pro, and get told my PC doesn’t meet the minimum requirements, which is rubbish as I’ve been running it for years.

Same with Win 11 Home

So now I’ve run out of ideas...

Sorry I can’t help with system info as it’s on the PC, just know it’s got B550 Aorus Elite AC V2

Welcome to the forum. Sorry it had to be under these circumstances. Since your post was not entered into the BSOD section, I am flagging @zbook He or one of the others experienced in dealing with bsod will advise you.
I am assuming you do not have a backup image of your system made before the failed upgrade. Is that correct? If you do have an image, use your backup application recovery media to see if you can restore it.

A word of advice. When doing a clean install, it is advisable to disconnect all drives except your system drive to prevent your bootloader from being written to the wrong drive.
Always do a clean install with all bios overclocking disabled. If it were me I would set the bios to default.

By the way, you can enter all those specs as a permanent entry to your forum profile. Click on your name on the forum toolbar and select system specs. That way you won't be asked for the information in the future.
Good luck.

Before the clean install test the drive and RAM.

These tests can run overnight while sleeping as needed.

Run Sea Tools bootable Long Generic test > take pictures > post share links

Thank you for your response,

It’s going to be difficult to remove the D drive as both the M.2’s need the graphics card removing every time. And knowing me I’ll remove the wrong one.

I still do not understand why it is telling me it does not meet system requirements when it’s been running Win 11 for three years.

I’m going to have to buy some more USB memory sticks to run these.

I don’t believe that I have incompatible hardware seeing as it’s been running Win 11 for three years or so, and this only happened after it tried a Win 11 update.

Quite why it’s failed to roll back after a failed upgrade I do not understand.

I downloaded the SeaTools Bootable onto a USB, but I just get

An operating system wasn’t found. Try disconnecting any drives that don’t contain an operating system.
Press any key to continue

It just will not boot with it

It won’t boot memtest86+

I’ll have to wait for the 32GB USB sticks to try out MediCatUSB

This is driving me crazy, if an update fails it normally rolls back to the previous one, why not this time?

I have disconnected all but the 2 M.2’s and using scanos I get this, so it has a windows folder and an old.window one, which for some reason “cannot be found”

I’ve got a really, really old windows tablet that ages to download stuff, so I’ve had to order a refurbished laptop to help with this.

(and also to let me get on with some stuff I need to do)

Good luck.
I should have listened to the bit about removing all but the OS drive, but seeing as both the M.2 drives are under the graphics card they are a pain to remove, plus it means removing and replacing the heat sinks along with the thermal layer being disturbed every time.

I did remove the others that are cable connected.

For some reason the update reset the BIOS to default so my OS drive was the 2nd drive on the boot list, and as my M.2 drives are exactly the same as seen in the BIOS I didn’t recognise it has done this.

Just for something else to try I promoted the 2nd to 1st and restarted the PC, and the update restarted at 75%.

Now fully updated and okay.

But why the update reset the BIOS, and why it couldn’t find the OS as the 2nd boot device I don’t know.
