Navigation pane not updating

If I select View > Hidden items, the folder pane updates, but the navigation pane does not and the same when deselecting hidden items.

It might be this but, not sure.
In Nav pane , right click on an empty space and see which items are check marked.
You can check mark as you please.

I have researched the options and came up with nothing. To explain, the navigation pane is updated if I restart Explorer.

We had the same problem on another thread I believe last week and by making the changes in the nav pane
by right clicking and choosing what does populate the nav pane, the person decided that it was as close
as that person would get to what they were after so, not resolved but, was enough it seemed.

I have the View on and the Hidden folders selected but, it is all the same whether hidden or not:

I just checked a Windows 10 machine and it works the same, so I guess it has always been and will always be.

Have you given a try to the right click on the nav pane?

Yes I have, I only have "Show this PC" and "Expand to current folder" selected, I don't want anything else to show. Have you tried using View > Hidden items to see if the activate in Navigation pane?

Edit: that's why I said not resolved for the last thread but, satisfactory for the last person to ask

Yes, that's normal. As you mentioned, it's the same in Windows 10. Closing all open Explorer windows and then opening Explorer again updates the navigation pane to match the main window's hidden status.

The problem is that you have to hunt down the folder you want again.

Yes, not ideal. The one-liner PowerShell script at the link below may be helpful. It restarts Explorer with the same folder(s) open.

How to restart explorer without losing open windows?

When I have to restart explorer.exe, usually I have many folders open, which get closed in the process. So is there a way to reopen these folders automatically after restarting explorer?
