Solved Turn off peek at taskbar buttons

A google found this (on this forum): Enable or Disable Peek in Windows 11 Tutorial

But I've already got both of these off, and it's still doing it. Whenever my mouse happens to rest over a taskbar button, I get an excruciatingly annoying label (or worse a thumbnail) popping up in front of the program I'm trying to use. It even stays there when I move the mouse away!! Please please tell me how to disable this absolutely useless pointless feature.



You see, I've moved the mouse away, and it's still there! I can't have anything but one of the buttons with a label, I have to have one, I can't have none!

Peek is the feature responsible for Peek at desktop (Win+,) and taskbar thumbnail live previews.

Peek is not related to the title pop-ups and taskbar thumbnail previews you are describing.

You can't disable the title pop-ups, but you can effectively disable taskbar thumbnail previews by setting a high ExtendedUIHoverTime DWORD value below.

Please read again, I often get thumbnails too.

I've also tried that before. It's currently set to decimal 3000000. Doesn't work. Windows ignores me.

Do note that taskbar thumbnail live previews (window on desktop of taskbar icon) are different than the taskbar thumbnail previews (over taskbar icon) you mentioned.

Just to confirm, did you restart the computer after changing the ExtendedUIHoverTime DWORD value to apply it?

I mentioned two things. Sometimes I get as shown in my screenshot, sometimes a thumbnail appears above it.

Yes, I changed the setting a very long time ago and it's been restarted probably 50 times since then.

Any 3rd party tweaking programs installed? Sometimes they can cause issues.

Startallback (for a proper start menu with the functionality returned), Xmouse (for reprogramming the middle button), Explorer Patcher (to remove rounded corners in windows), Powertoys (for finding the mouse - I have 5 monitors). none of these should be changing the popups.

I had the same problem in Windows 11. Titles stayed for 6s and were hiding some other UI.

Will that mess up my startallback, which is already adjusting the taskbar?

And it says it's not compatible with Windows 11. Does it perhaps work if startallback has reverted to an older one?

It works anyway. Startallback and 7+ Taskbar tweaker work together on windows 11 (I have startallback set to windows 10 look which might be helping).

Yes, the mentioned two works together and there is probably no other way to one work without another on W11. However, there are only benefits with using both at once And message editing works for me;P

You can't edit after a certain time, which is annoying.
