Windows 11
This is an old program - but it should run on W11 - I've got all my DVDs full of music on AdCat and now I cant access the .acat files.

The program tries to launch but doesn't open any windows, and stops. I've tried all the different compatibility modes - same result on each one.

Any ideas, or know of other programs that will import my .acat databases?

Thanks

Yes, it is very old. Here is all I have to offer. Run the program in compatibility mode using the earliest OS listed. Also run the program as administrator. Right click on it's exe file, select properties, select advanced, check box run as administrator. Apply OK

Go to settings>apps>default apps. Scroll to bottom and select "choose defaults by file type."
Find .acat in the list and set it's default app to Advanced Cataloger Pro.
If .acat is not present in the list of file types, it means the program did not populate it in the registry. Report back if that is the case.We can see if our registry guru can help, but it is so old it may be a lost cause.

Steve,

Does it run alright in Windows 10?

Since it seems to me to be something of a specialist application, does it have a publisher's support site or user forum that might help you?

it should run on W11
You don't say why you think so but alright.

All the best,
Denis

Thanks for replies ... the program was installed when I installed Windows 11 a long time ago, and it worked then.. I have recently had issues and had to reinstall windows 22621.2070 .. this was a fresh install and Advanced Cataloguer Pro refuses to work.

I have used the compatibility wizard to go back to W95 (earliest, but I tried them all!!) selected and saved Run As Administrator. Extension .acat appears in the default apps list and I've attached to ACP . The programs appears to execute (the cursor turns to an animated ring) but no windows open and the program is not running.

Thanks for trying to help ... I dont suppose anybody could try to install (its free now) to see if I have a problem that can be resolved.??

I tried the program which dates back to 2006 (tests clean in Virustotal), and does not seem to require any compatibility settings.
Presumably, you have tried using both the "ClearACATProSettings.bat" which is in the installation folder, and uninstalling Acat followed by reinstalling it also?

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Advanced CATaloguer Pro 2.6\ClearACATProSettings.bat"

Other than that, I can't think of any reason why it is not working for you.
Tested with both save & open test catalog file.

Maybe try and uninstall it with unlocker or geek uninstaller then reinstalling. Defender kept complaining about it and also Malwarebytes Browser Guard. Check your AV isn't blocking it.
Works for me and the free registration works.

Thanks everyone for trying... still cant get it going. Turned Avast off completely while installing and opening but the same result.
Used Revo uninstaller to get the bits left over.. I must be running something else which is preventing this....
