Anyone playing with Chat GPT for things like writing scripts?

I was a little slow to the party, but the other day I was having some nasty problems with my system and I realized that a couple of scripts could help me in my troubleshooting.

The problem is that I was going to need PowerShell to do what I needed to do and I'm just not well versed in PowerShell at all. So, I decided that now might be the time to see if all this noise I was hearing about Chat GPT was more than just a lot of hype.

I created an account, and asked it to write a script...

Holy sh*t! It spit back out a script that did exactly what I wanted along with an explanation of how it worked.

Next, I said something to the effect of "modify that script so that it does this and that". Once again, a flawless script.

I've got to say that this really weirds me out. I had always thought that actually writing code or scripts was a truly "human" thing, that the machines would not write their own code. I guess it shows how completely unimaginative I was.

How about everyone else here? Anyone else exploring this? I'd love to hear what all of you are doing with this tech.

I've been dabbling with Chat GPT for scripting too! It's crazy how it can whip up scripts like nobody's business. Totally blew my mind too. It's like having a coding buddy who never sleeps. Loving it so far!

AI is really good for scripting, however its important to understand what the script does before running it. I have seen very rare cases of it messing up and creating a wrong script that messes something up, but for the most part it is indeed quite accurate and very good. I suggest you start a new chat every now and then to keep it from hallucinating.

I've been exploring Chat GPT for scripting too, and it's been quite the journey! It's amazing how it can whip up scripts like nobody's business. But, you know, as good as it is, there's always that little voice in the back of my head saying, “Double-check before you hit run.” That's why when it comes to something as important as essay writing, I prefer to stick with what I know works. I've found that relying on an assignment writing service like https://essays.edubirdie.com/assignment-writing-service gives me peace of mind about quality and plagiarism concerns. It's like having a safety net, you know?

Given how AI's are trained by feeding them existing content, I tend to believe they can regurgitate code that pre-existed online (by web crawling). Writing code for unresolved problems, yeah no.

Just remember, AI's have no way of testing their answers. It's like Google Page Rank, the more commonly repeated a searched answer is found, the more likely it will return the same response.

For writing scripts - no. Precisely because of how AI is trained, as mentioned here, I think the best way of using it could go towards doing something with the existing content rather than creating a new one. I recently read about using Chat GPT for web page classification and am testing it out. I still need to work on the prompts a little, but it looks promising. Done right, it will save me a lot of time for this complex task. And similar ones, like categorizing, tagging, anything of that type. I'm yet to look into the latest announcement about Chat GPT 4o, I only glanced yesterday. Curious to see how that goes.

What language are these scripts in? VBS. PEARL?. Can you lotbpostbsome examples that others might use?

Not used Chatgpt but I have asked copilot about writing a simple script and it worked. As a whole, I'm leery of it for this purpose because one's wording has to be exactly right to get the correct results.

Yeah, lots of buddies have used AI to generate some scripting stuff and the results have been really solid. Just like anything, you need to review it and make sure you understand what it's going to do before running it, but that goes for any script....even if it's 100% self written, written by a co-worker, found in stack-exchange, discussed in reddit, found on a forum, etc.

AI is the way of the future. People can either embrace it or scoff at it, but it's not going to be a passing fad. It's ability to pump out the basics of a script in just a few moments is awesome. Spend a few hours tweaking it to your situation, rather than a few hours learning the basics to get the script to a barely functional state.

Glad you agree

many even on this Forum think the whole idea of A.I is just B/S and remember A.I is at roughly the equivalent of a 6 month old infant --give it a few years -- !!!

Cheers

Do you know any coders aged six? I'm sure there is not one on this planet aged six months! AI is much older too.
