I've always been an ASUS fan boy, but even I have noticed some serious weirdness coming from ASUS.
The X570 board I have, hasn't given me any problems at all, but starting with the 600 series boards...

I purchased an Asus Zenbook Pro Duo two years ago. I even purchased an extended warranty which Asus would not honor. I will never again purchase anything with an Asus name on it. Period.

JayzTwoCents said he has been having problems with ASUS for a few years now. The problems with their X670 motherboards is just the last straw.

It has to do with how ASUS is mishandling the AMD EXPO settings in the BIOS. Note EXPO is AMDs equivalent of Intel's XMP. To compound things ASUS is causing a PR nightmare in how they are handing the problem.

I am not sure but it may have to do with the ASUS X670E Crosshair Hero and ASUS X670E Extreme motherboards using the AMDs 7000X3D series CPUs. Other motherboard manufacturers may be having similar problems but I have none seen adequate verification of that yet.

Using EXPO causes the voltage to increase to greater than 1.4volts instead of the expected 1.30volts. If the voltage remains too high for very long it causes an over-current in the CPU. The problem is that the ASUS motherboard's over-current protection is not kicking in and shutting down power to the CPU. The result is the both the CPU and motherboard are destroyed.

I just bult a new PC using an Asus TUF Z790 board. All works fine. However, I had to return a ROG Strix Z790 board I bought first due to the stupid VRM design which was too large for my Noctua NH-D14 cooler to fit.

Just assembled an updated system for my mate,
Asus Rog Strix Z790 - H DDR5 latest Bios update was installed
i13700k
64Gb Corsair Vengeance DDR5 5600
Intel Arc A750
Noctua NH-D15 cooler
Lan-Li V2000 case from previous build
Corsair TX650 V2 ditto
Digital Windows 11 pro license from previous Sandy bridge i3 2100/Intel DH67

All went ok BUT.... Can't get Ram to DDR5 5600 XMP!, Blue screens on Windows log on! But ok at DDR5 4800 stock speed.
Ram is certified for every Z790 board but this one!! :what:

so... awaiting Bios update maybe.
He's happy with the performance, runs nice an cool.
I was surprised how long it takes to get from Case power on to windows log on screen. It's a DDR5 thing

I have Kingston Fury Beast DDR5 64GB RAM running on the XMP profile at 5600 on my Asus Tuf Z790 board. Did you have to rotate the Noctua fan 90 degrees to fit the Strix board which is non-optimum?

No this one is big

but fits nicely right way round, and I only fitted one fan.
Ram by the way was CMK64GX5M2B5600C40 note 'K' not 'T' K is latest version!

There was room but it was hardly/barely warm to touch. 2nd fan would fit over ram easily.

My current rig is running an Asus Rog Strix X570-E gaming . However, in light of all of the stuff I have been watching, I'm much more inclined to go with an MSI board next time.

Historically I have had good luck with Asus and Gigabyte. I flip flop back and forth between Intel and AMD depending upon which I consider to be the better chip at any given time. My last 3 builds all AMD.

Their customer support is also why I no longer buy Asus products of any kind. Not that I ever bought any of their motherboards anyway, as I've always heard horror stories about their support prior to my experience below.

I bought an Asus Laptop back in 2012 and found the power brick overheating after a about a few months use. First, I was told I had nothing to worry about, but if I wanted a replacement, they'd send me one free of charge. After a week of not receiving anything from them, I call them back and was told the tech person never told me that, and that I'd have to pay for a replacement.... even though the laptop wasn't even a year old.

I did pay for a replacement but got it from a third-party vendor instead and never looked at Asus again. And why none of my builds feature Asus boards.

Asus is said to make some of the best boards in the market, but their customer service stinks, and why I don't support them.

For me, my last 5 builds have used Gigabyte boards. Prior to that I was using Intel boards. Now strictly Gigabyte.

I won't sit through a half hour video at the moment, but the over-volting issue apparently wasn't unique to Asus.

If Asus provided worse customer service than the other MB makers, that's another thing.

I've been using mainly Asus boards because I like the way their BIOS setups are configured. (Although my Z690 board has insanely complex possible adjustments. No need to touch most.)

Yeah, the over-volting wasn't unique to Asus, but they handled it super poor. When they said, "oh here is a beta version of the BIOS that you should run, but if you do run it, your warranty is invalid", the proverbial crap hit the fan.

I've been using Asus boards for ages and still do. My new Asus ProArt Z790 is excellent and I have no issues with the tech service from the local Asus service center here in New Zealand. The issue I've had with this new build is two sets of faulty Corsair DDR5 ram.

My new build using a TUF Gaming Pro WiFi Z790 board s also fine and they replied quickly to a couple of technical queries.

Not very relevant, but with an Intel CPU, its warranty is void if you use an XMP above the spec'd maximum frequency listed for the CPU. (For DDR5, it's 4800MHz Gen12, 5600Mhz for Gen13.) I had bitter personal experience. If you use high-performance RAM, and contact Intel for warranty service, some might be inclined to lie.

"If" that true (and I doubt it) that's a very recent change as Intel has always supported XMP.... since it's their tech.

If the RAM is XMP certified for 4000Mhz, that's the guaranteed speed. If you return a CPU that utilized XMP, that will not void the warranty.
