Hi.
I have this 1TB SSD: PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 SSD | Crucial P5 Plus
Q: Should I install the Crucial SSD driver even though I won't use its additional features? Is it faster or somehow better than the standard Microsoft SSD controller?
This is NVMe SSD driver for Windows OS: P5 Plus SSD Support
Can it be used without data loss? Thanks!

Bottom line is that this is totally optional.

Yes I know that. But I'm interested in the difference in performance. And unfortunately I couldn't find anything about that. So if someone has tested and compared, which is better?

Otherwise, I have Storage Executive installed, and those special functions did not appeal to me. Nor MOMENTUM CACHE (up to 4GB in RAM).

But thanks for the reply. Dan

Well, you could make an image backup, testing both combinations and check performance (and tell us).

NVMEs are that fast, I doubt you will notice any significant
performance impact. I suppose if you only has 4 GB Ram and were pagefiling a lot, you might see a significant difference but adding more RAM would have a mich greater impact.

I don't understand much about the testing. That's why I'm asking if anyone has already compared.

Exactly, if it even matters? But why would Micron provide a downloadable driver?

Otherwise, I have 32 GB of RAM, see my pc.

Whats to understand?

Install passmark - run it, save results.

Change driver, run it again,,compare results.

I recommend making an image backup first. If you do not know how to do this, then now is time to learn. This is an essential skill.

Re MS providing a driver - they supply lots of generic ones so a user can use pc even if they have not got vendor specific drivers. Whether they are as good as vendor drivers can only truly be ascertained by testing.

OK. But I don't have room for a clone 1TB SSD yet. I have to free up or buy about 1TB HDD.
Here is the SW: Acronis True Image for Crucial

Most of the time vendor drivers are more specific to their device. They are usually a better choice.

In my previous experience with Samsung SSDs, I found Microsoft storage driver performed slightly better than Samsung drivers, the difference was very small and unnoticeable, have a look at this link for more tests done by someone else.
