Edge keeps running in background even after closing

Why does Edge keep running in background even after closing the browser? I have continue running background extensions and apps when Microsoft Edge is closed set to disabled? This causes the clear browing data when browser is closed in the privacy settings to not work as it only works when the browser is properly closed but does not work if force close Microsoft Edge in background tasks from task manager.

It is the same for me. Microsoft has built Windows around Edge. Other Windows features, Co-pilot, weather,maps,Widgets,etc, are dependent on Edge processes running even though the Edge app itself is not open. You can stop Edge auto-starting using task manager>startup apps, but as soon as you use any Windows feature that depends on Edge, multiple processes will open and stay open until you stop them. I do not normally use Edge myself, but there are 18 Edge processes running at any given time.

I use edge most of the time. It makes windows work better because it is designed for it. Just turn the features off that you don't want to use.
