How to turn off mouse cursor moving to where MS thinks I want it?

OS
Windows 11 Professional (not the cut down rubbish)
Press the windows key, and it moves the cursor onto the start menu. A dialog box opens and it moves to that. I find this very annoying, because I know where the mouse cursor was and expect it to still be there. Having to go hunt for it is an absolute pest.

Hello mate, :alien:

This sounds like it may be the "Snap To" pointer option. If so, you can turn it off using an option in the tutorial below to stop this.

Look, up in the sky. It's a bird. It's a plane.
No, it's Shawn the Brink! :D

To the tune of the "Underdog" theme song...

There's no need to fear, Shawn the Brink is here!

When problems in computers come
And break the things that they should run
And frustrate all who want things done
There comes a calling on the drum
For Shawn the Brink! Shawn the Brink! Shawn the Brink! Shawn the Brink!

Speed of lightning, roar of thunder
Helping all before they blunder
Shawn the Brink! Shawn the Brink!

I think I matched every syllable on that one. :-)

Snap to is unticked in control panel.

Start does open. This is an additional action occurring, windows moving the cursor to something new which has opened on the screen. Observe where your mouse cursor is, press the windows key, has the mouse cursor moved?

Snap to is unticked in control panel.

As a test, turn the "Snap To" setting on, apply, turn off, and apply to see if that may toggle it to stop if it is this setting somehow.

If your mouse/keyboard/touchpad has any software installed, then you might also check its settings to see if one may be related.

When I press Win+R, my pointer moves to the centre of the run dialog.
As a test, turn the "Snap To" setting on, apply, turn off, and apply to see if that may toggle it to stop if it is this setting somehow.
Still doing it after on and off.

If your mouse/keyboard/touchpad has any software installed, then you might also check its settings to see if one may be related.
I'm not aware of special software, it's just a basic mouse. I've installed X-mouse, would that cause this? I disabled x-mouse and it didn't prevent it occuring.

When I press Win+R, my pointer moves to the centre of the run dialog.
If I have Snap to enabled, my pointer automatically jumps to and rests on the OK button, and the cursor flashes, ready to type...

... if I disable Snap to, my pointer stays where it was, with a flashing cursor ready to type...

I've installed X-mouse, would that cause this?
Probably...
I disabled x-mouse and it didn't prevent it occuring.
I would uninstall it, fully, with a reboot.

I really need xmouse. I use it a lot. Since it appears its not basic Windows messing with my mouse, I'll just have to put up with it. It could also be something in power toys. Too much bother to try everything.
