Solved How to turn off mouse cursor moving to where MS thinks I want it?

Press the windows key, and it moves the cursor onto the start menu. A dialog box opens and it moves to that. I find this very annoying, because I know where the mouse cursor was and expect it to still be there. Having to go hunt for it is an absolute pest.

Hello mate,

This sounds like it may be the "Snap To" pointer option. If so, you can turn it off using an option in the tutorial below to stop this.

Have you got any software that can change hot keys installed? The default is to open Start.

Snap to is unticked in control panel.

Start does open. This is an additional action occurring, windows moving the cursor to something new which has opened on the screen. Observe where your mouse cursor is, press the windows key, has the mouse cursor moved?

As a test, turn the "Snap To" setting on, apply, turn off, and apply to see if that may toggle it to stop if it is this setting somehow.

If your mouse/keyboard/touchpad has any software installed, then you might also check its settings to see if one may be related.

I'm not aware of special software, it's just a basic mouse. I've installed X-mouse, would that cause this? I disabled x-mouse and it didn't prevent it occuring.

If I have Snap to enabled, my pointer automatically jumps to and rests on the OK button, and the cursor flashes, ready to type...

... if I disable Snap to, my pointer stays where it was, with a flashing cursor ready to type...

I really need xmouse. I use it a lot. Since it appears its not basic Windows messing with my mouse, I'll just have to put up with it. It could also be something in power toys. Too much bother to try everything.

And yet I come back to this, and on/off fixed it. Digital computers should not be random like this.
