OS
Windows 11
Good evening.

After a long journey, with the help from the kind folks in the Windows 10 forums, I finally got my computer converted over to Windows 11, and it worked for all of 15 minutes.

I kept all my original files, I had to uninstall and reinstall my Nvidia video drivers and do the update as a clean boot to make it work.

The system would not let me on the internet, and then I got a pair of BSOD messages after multiple restarts:

Stop Code: SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION

and now this is the code that shows up the most:

Stop Code: IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
What failed: ntoskrnl.exe

My system would not allow me to go into safe mode, and when I decided to bite the bullet and just go a clean install, it told me that my computer is not compatible, even though I met all the requirements and made the conversion. Any help would be appreciated :)

Thanks!

Have you enabled PTT (platform trust technology) in the BIOS settings? That's the firmware TPM on an Intel motherboard.

Presumably you are also booting as UEFI, Secure Boot.

If you can boot at all, I suggest going into a command line windows with administrator privileges, and running

sfc /scannow

That may fix any corrupt Windows files. If you get the message that some files could not be repaired, run

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

and then run sfc /scannow again.

Best of luck.

The Ten Forums thread was: Windows 11 installation recurring nightmare! - Windows 10 Help Forums

What happens when the computer is turned on?
a) can boot to logon screen
b) can logon to windows before BSOD
c) cannot boot without BSOD
d) can reboot to safe mode by performing multiple power offs
e) can boot to a bootable flash drive
At first, when I ran all the instructions from the Windows 10 forums thread, all seemed fine, I could not log onto the internet, but I think that may have been my fault.

But then the screen went out, and I got a BSOD. Unfortunately, I could not get a screen shot of it, but it said: Your device ran into a problem and needs to restart. We're collecting some error info, and then you can restart. Stop Code: SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION.

When I restart, I get the BSOD again. Sometimes I get a message about the IRQ that I mentioned before. I cannot find a way to load into Safe Mode. When I put the USB with the Win 11 ISO in, it does allow me to get to the command prompt, so I will try the diagnostics and see what happens. But to answer your questions line by line

a) I cannot boot to the logon screen, I get the BSOD before that
b) I cannot log onto windows before BSOD, it come up right after the screen to hit F2 for the BIOS. I can still access the BIOS.
c) I have tried restarting about a dozen times, I never get past the BSOD. When I followed the commands, I was actually on Windows 11 for about 20 minutes before the first BSOD, then I never saw the logon again.
d) In about the dozen times I restarted, I never got an option to log into safe mode, which was my main goal.
e) I still have the ISO and it goes back into the installation menu, but when I try to repair, it instantly fails, and I have an option for command prompt, but not one for safe mode.

Thanks again.

I believe that the PTT is enabled...I think :)

I ran the SFC /scannow and it said that it repaired files, but it still would not load. I tried to run the second command, but I got a message that said "the cleanup-image option is unknown."

Thanks

To answer your question on this, in my haste to get this post up, I probably glanced over any instructions. Plus, I put this in the general thread and it was moved to this one. Before I start a new post, I will be sure to check for any instructions and follow them as best as possible. Thanks again for your help and patience.

There is a limited amount of time for one troubleshooting option.

If it passes then the computer cannot return to Windows 10 without a clean install.

Before a clean install boot to either safe mode or use a MCT command prompt to post results of the earlier commands.
(these results may be useful for the next person with failure to boot Windows)

Then consider these options:
reset save files
custom install
