I finally pulled the trigger on the Kamrui AM08PRO Gaming Mini PC with the AMD Ryzen 7. Everywhere I have looked this computer is getting top reviews. This PC will incorporated into my amatuer radio statio. My old Lenovo mini desktop is a 5+ years old system. it is working just fine but is does not have BT, WiFi, a rotten audio chip set, dinosaur graphics, etc. The Kamrui has an internal 516 GB internal SSD which is plenty for the boot drive I have a couple of Samsung 2TB external SSD's waiting. My primary machine is my Apple Mac Studio, as good as it is it just does not have the varity of amatuer radio software available as for a Windows machine. I made a oath I was not going to get another Windows machine. What that turned out to be is I am no longer going to assemble my own Windows machines anymore.

Nice! I have an Intel based Kamrui Mini PC and I love it. I just turned it into my Plex server. My Plex server was previously a monster of a tower case with a 4th Gen Intel i7 CPU. That was a wonderful machine for many years, but amazingly, this little Mini PC way outperforms it. All the storage is external now.

Have fun with it!

Like you I am going from a monster full tower AMD 9590 system. I had to have something when if died so I got the little i5 lenovo. From it I learned that there is no longer a reason to build monster PC's. The Mac Studio cemented it. The monster case had room for 12 Hard drives and 5 SSD's I had them all filled. Than Cloud storage happened, and gigantic HD's so all of those drives were redundant. The last gasp of the digital packrat me ended with adding 20 TB of external storage to the Mac. Total overkill.

A question; I notice in the photos of this Kamrui mini PC that it uses AData RAM sticks, this is a much favored brand of mine. I know it will not really be necessary but I will not be able to resist the urge to upgrade this PC to 64 GB's of RAM. Is there an AData list somewhere of the acceptable AData DDR5 sticks out there to tell me what to get to upgrade this PC to 64 GB's?

I'd heavily evaluate whether there is anything to gain with going to 64GB. This box only has 2 RAM slots, so you would have to scrap the 32GB that it comes with to make that upgrade. I find with these small mini-pc's, it's hard to find them listed on the HCL's for RAM and such....so often times it's just a trial to see if the stick works with it or not.

I'm running a BeeLink mini PC myself, and it came with 16GB (2 x 8), which was fine...but it had a hardware issue and had to be sent back. When my replacement came, it had 1x16GB...so RAM wasn't in dual channel. For that reason, I bought a 16GB stick from Amazon and it fortunately worked just fine. It was a Patriot Viper Steel stick, and was only like $59 (this was nearly 3 years ago).

You could ask if they have any preferred memory on their forum:

You have completely made my day you have turned me on to a mini PC info treasure trove. I quickly found answer to my question. They have tested Crucial RAM 64GF (2X32GB) DDR5 4800MT/s CL40, and the say the Corsair Vengeance Sodimm DDR5 64GB (2X32) 4800mHz CL40 will also work. Both are trusted brands for me. The RAM clock speed is interesting my final assembled PC had DDR4 RAM and nothing above 1850 mHz would work, I should have been able to run 2800 mHz on the ASUS motherboard I was running.

I'm not sure if I'll replace my desktops with actual desktop or with mini PCs. If I do decide to go with mini PCs they will have to have a minimum of 16GBs of memory and a SSD of at least 1TB. They will also have to have a option for a second drive. I already have two external DVD/ Blue Ray drives so I'm not going to consider that as a plus or minus. One is an actual 5 and 1/ 4 drive and the other is a Laptop drive. I have always been a fan of desktop PCs but the mini PCs are changing my mind.

Yeah, my Beelink mini pc has a single NVME slot on the motherboard, and you can add a second 2.5" drive to the case. Mine happens to have a 512GB NVME and a 512GB SATA SSD. It's been a fantastic little box.

$359 for a core 12th gen Core i5-12450h, with 16GB of RAM, 1TB PCIe Gen 4 drive with Windows 11 pro.

Good points. I have one Mini PC that has an Intel 12th gen i5 CPU that. It has 2 NVMe slots and a 2.5" drive bay.

A few other Mini PC specific items you may be interested in knowing about, one of which I discovered by accident today...

First, I had a Plex server that was running on an old 4th gen Intel i7 based system. It was getting time to replace that system. As a test, I wanted to try my slowest Mini PC to see what it could do as a Plex server. That system as an Intel N95 CPU. If you are not familiar with the N series CPUs, they are the replacements for what Intel used to call Celeron and Pentium CPUs. But they are a huge improvement over those. To my amazement, they handled 1080P and even 4K streaming of my Plex media without even breaking a sweat. I then realized that this is because even those low end CPUs have the fantastic Intel Quick Sync video which does all the heavy lifting of video transcoding. My CPU usage even with 4K video was only like 5% with excursions going briefly higher.

Also, same cheap N95 based mini PC has 2 gigabit Ethernet ports. I guess that the driver must do link aggregation because when I connect both ports at the same time to my 2.5G network, I get real world twice the performance of a single Ethernet port. So that cheap little machine is now officially becoming my new Plex server and I'll hang a pile of 8TB disks off of it :-)

One of the things that sold me on the Kamrui is the design of the case. I was looking at getting an ASUS PN-52 Expert center but It does not have the Ryzen 7, and it does not have a Radeon chipset. The big thing that ended my interest in it was what it took to add RAM and install a larger SSD. You have move a daughter board aside to get at were the RAM and SSD's plug in. Not a big deal but the Kamrui makes is so easy. Modern computers are so powerful that what you have to upgrade in the I/O cabling. The Kamrui has USB "A" and one USB 4 ports. Thanks to the EU Apple is being forced to replace the Lightning with the USB C. YES! The Thunderbolt, USB 4 is going to be the standard now. People think the Thunderbolt is purely an Apple thing, it isn't Intel is the developer of this standard it is just Apple up till now is the only outfit that used it. This is now changing. The fact that Thunderbolt, TB4 and 5, and the USB 4 standard are compatible with the regular USB-C is what makes it so sweet.

Looking at this above photo I have a very nice Samsung EVO 1TB SSD I could pop into this little computer as soon as it comes out of the box. I have no interest in changing out the boot drive. 😁

One of my Mini PCs uses the same case. In my case it is an AceMagic unit with an 11th gen Intel i9 CPU. If you visited the web link I provided earlier, you may notice that AceMagic AceMagician, and Kamrui are all there. I get the feeling that they are basically all the same company.

FYI, they state that the maximum capacity of the NVMe is 2TB, but I suspect that they spec'ed that out before 4TB single-sided NVMe modules were readily available. I tried a 4TB in my Intel Based system and it worked flawlessly.

One thing that is exasperating to me is the fixation on gaming. I am not a gamer but I always assembled "gaming computers" mostly because of the superior audio chip sets they have, especially the ones in the ASUS motherboards I used. With that said not everyone is a gamer so people get the wrong impression of these mini computers when an influencer slams one of these systems because is cannot play a game that almost requires a supercomputer to run. Coming from the totally integrated world of Apple, macOS, iOS, iPadOS, and watchOS. It is the integration that I am more interested in. This is why this Kamrui PC will be used mainly to control my Amateur Radio Station, macOS does not have the software. It is overkill for this use but it is better to have more than you need than not quite enough.

Those of you running these little PC's should take a look at SDR's, Software Defined Radios. They are very interesting and very capable RF receivers. They turn any PC, and at least with the SDRPlay Mac computers into world class general coverage receivers.

I have multiple AceMagic / AceMagician and Kamrui Mini PCs. Unfortunately, I have to admit that two of them came with the added feature of Malware :-). I just saw another video on YouTube regarding this issue today. Apparently new shipments of those same systems have corrected the issue.

In both of my cases, the malware was part of the specialized lighting / display software for the systems. The downloadable versions of those utilities were clean for me. I initially had assumed that these were false positives, but in hindsight, based upon some of the detailed reporting of others where they fully confirmed infection, I now know better.

Since clean installs are my specialty, I always do a clean install anyway, just to make sure that I have my procedures for reinstalling on any given system all documented and down to a science.

If you need any further details, please feel free to ask.
