Hi there,
For a few weeks, I'm having problems when the laptop sleeps or hibernates. While I'm working on the computer everything is fine, but as soon as I close the lid (power settings = sleep) the Laptop heats up and finally shuts down when the maximum temperature is reached. The same is true if the system hibernates. The second page was created after just 1 hour of sleep. How can I find out what the Computer is doing when it is supposed to sleep? Can someone help? By the way, I checked the fans and all updates are applied. Temps page1.jpgTemps page2.jpg

Hi Klaus, welcome to the ElevenForums 🙏

Are you leaving the charge cable in? If so do you think that might have something to do with the overheating?

That's what I'm doing right now.
HI Klaus!

I have the same as @Hazel123 for the sleep.
When I'm using it (notebook) it's on and when I finish, I turn it off.
What are the temps like when you play games or doing other CPU
intensive programs if any?
Those cores are meant to run hot. The TDP is 100*C and if you don't
get to say 95 or 96*C then I wouldn't worry about it.
How long have you had the Omen for?
Do keep it on your desk at all times ?
Do you run it on battery?
Are the fans programmable? (fan profile)
Is the notebook on a stand?

Hi Klaus, welcome to the ElevenForums 🙏

Are you leaving the charge cable in? If so do you think that might have something to do with the overheating?
Will try. thank you

I've disabled Modern Standby but now the Computer shuts down when closing the lid because S3 seems not to be available
Something does not sound kosher here to me. Would you please open a command prompt as admin and type powercfg -a

One bad thing about laptops, in General, is their cooling fans. They are almost impossible to clean properly. Blowing out the dust can help, but a thorough disassembly and cleaning is not possible for the average user.

When the CPU cooler on my desktop began to get noisy, where I could hear it speed up as I worked the CPU, I shut down the system, removed the cooling fan/heat sink assembly and thorough cleaned everything. I even added a couple of drops of high grade oil to the main bearing on the fan.
Once I had re-assembled everything, the fan was Silent! And, I could not hear it speed up as the CPU was worked harder, like during a virus scan.
That's just a little bit of annual maintenance. Much more difficult on a laptop.

I was given a very nice, BIG, HP Laptop with a cooling fan that was completely Frozen. How I dealt with that is another story for another day.

TM
