Hi there,

I've got a BSOD today on my brand new Lenovo Yoga laptop.
This is Windows 11 22H2 Pro. Fresh install, not the Lenovo one. I've run Lenovo Vantage to make sure all the drivers are up to date.

It's been working fine and this is the only occurrence. It happened when I unplugged a RS232 adaptor (Model Number USA19HS | Eaton). I did install Windows 11 drivers and I had to disable the Core Isolation in order to do so or the drivers wouldn't install.

From a quick peek I saw evidence of a video driver crash though? The laptop has both AMD graphics and nVidia 3050.

Logs attached, it would be great to find out more about it, even thought it's just a one-off.

Thanks!
Tony

Was the RS232 adapter driver USA19Hx64p.sys by any chance? That's the driver causing the BSOD...

If you had to disable Core Isolation in order to install it then it's not a Microsoft signed driver and it was unwise to install it. You either need to find another driver for that adapter or find an RS232 adapter that is Windows 11 compatible.

Uh, what version of Windows did the laptop come with? That you needed to replace it?

@ubuysa
It is. Well, good to know.

It's the only driver available, coming directly from the manufacturer. I had a look online and it seems that there are not many RS232 adaptors which don't require the core isolation to be disabled.

Also - and this is important - this adaptor is one of the few I know which works with some equipment I need to use. Don't ask me why others don't work! I blame the equipment but I cannot change that.

The driver is official for Windows 11, I will ping the manufacturer asking for advice.

Also, I just tried the same adaptor with same drivers on windows 10 and it crashed the same way.

@Dru2
It came with Windows 11 Home. I updated to Windows 11 Pro, then I started noticing some bloatware around so I wiped it and started from scratch! :) I then reinstalled "Lenovo Vantage" which made sure all my manufacturer drivers were installed. I've been using Lenovo for a while and their System Update/Vantage does a decent job, I reckon.

Thank you so much for looking into that for me!

The USA-19hs serial adapter is likely related to:

a) BSOD
b) Live Kernel Events
c) USB device draining system power when system is idle

These are its drivers:

usa19hp USA19HP c:\windows\system32\drivers\usa19hx64p.sys

usa19h USA19H c:\windows\system32\drivers\usa19hx64.sys

This driver caused the BSOD: usa19hx64p.sys

c:\windows\system32\drivers\usa19hx64p.sys

Live Kernel Event 15F:;
This machine is exhibiting behavior that reduces screen-off battery life.
Typically this is caused by CPU activity, device activity, or devices being in an insufficient idle state.

Yeah, I use Vantage on my Lenovo Yoga X1 as well. And yes, it does an excellent job of keeping both drivers and BIOS updated.

Anyway, what kind of "bloatware" was on your Lenovo, because mine hardly came with anything other than Vantage, and maybe an app or two that was specific to the notebook. No McAfee or 30-day trial programs.

@Dru2

McAfee indeed! :) There was another one I can't recall right now, when I found myself uninstalling stuff I thought "wipe it" : )
In my experience Lenovo laptops are the best I've seen (not many to be fair) in terms of bloatware. Still, I thought I would start from scratch, I knew Vantage would restore all the required software with no efforts, which it did.

@zbook
Shall do, thanks! However I won't use that adaptor very often and it's clear the driver has a problem as it crashed on a different system with Windows 10.

Probably an incorrect use of the word "indeed" on my end! :)

I meant that I found McAfee on mine - I understand you did not!

For clarity, I believe my laptop was/is considered a business class notebook. I certainly had it configured that when I ordered it direct from Lenovo due to requested spec configuration.

The key point though is "business class" notebooks from Lenovo aren't full of "bloatware". This is mine - 2017 Hardware Thread - Windows 10 Help Forums

Anyway, per your issue - did you get it solved?

Yoga X1 gen2! I had more or less the same exact laptop! I now have the following generation (I think Intel gen 8 quad core?) and the new AMD Lenovo with a Ryzen 7 6800 is replacing it.

I don’t want to say the AMD Lenovo came with lots of bloatware, just a little bit.

I’ll upload the logs later on when back from work 🙂 thanks so far!

Can you please confirm those batch files do not run anything which is changing anything on my system? I see SFC and DSIM, are all the commands in "view" mode only?

Thanks
