This all took place when I was at work and so this is what happened. Can you explain this? HTF can this happen. My wife is now band from touching all my PC's in this house for the exception of her laptop. The HDMI on the card has some damage but repairable. Thank God...

They build computers, to break.
Computers should be built like this...

Case has a back plane (motherboard). Everything plugs into that.
And then that is wired to the case connectors.
It doesn't matter how delicate the insides are, but the outside, (where the people are), should have mil-spec connectors.

They should be large, and connect firmly (screws, bayonet, etc.).
No jack smaller than a 1/4" dia.
Vid card connectors should be built like DVI connectors, or stronger.

USB, display port, HDMI... are garbage. They're gonna break.

DVI locks in as HDMI is loose. Lock in connector seem to make more sense. This wouldn't have happened if that were the case.

Looks like connection are not very tight and your wife use the cable to disconnect the connection from your computer.

I've worked in corporate IT for 25+ years. Very few things amaze me anymore.

Display port cables are the worst. I've seen computers dragged right off desks from people trying to pull out the cable without realizing there is a small clip.

My in-laws once broke off the PS2 Connectors from their mouse and keyboard inside of their computers, and then began repeatedly emailing me....while I was at work. They finally called and were like "why aren't you answering us", and I'm like "Because I have a job and am working. I'm not a 24x7 tech support team for your computer crisis".

I've had the same thing happen when pulling out a new USB WiFi dongle that, as it turns out, was being held in more tightly than its body was designed to withstand.
Unfortunately, in my case, the disintegrating USB connection on the dongle pulled out the innards of my computer's USB socket as it came out so I had to take the laptop's casing off and fit a new board for that [USB 2 socket, SD card reader].
My disaster was not my fault ...

Suggest you ask your wife what she did?!

I only had something similar happen with a locking DisplayPort cable, which was plugged into a monitor on an articulated arm. The cable got caught on the 'elbow' of the arm and of course when the arm was extended it tried to pull the cable out at an angle, but couldn't (due to the angle and locking plug) and the plug part of the cable became slightly (not totally, like your cable) pulled out of its housing.

Fortunately I was able to snug it back in again and the split housing clicked back together again. Crucially the signal wasn't affected so I guess I was lucky that the monitor socket wasn't affected.

But someone always has a way to build it cheaper and force the company, that builds quality, out of the market, which is why there is so much crap on the market. Refrigerators used to outlive people. Now you buy a $600 clothes dryer and when it breaks after 4 years and there are NO PARTS AVAILABLE Samsung says 'so sorry.'

I still have and use my parents Hot Point refrigerator they bought when they got married in 1951. I don't even want to think about how many refrigerators my wife and I have gone through since we got married in 1979. The longest one we have owned is the GE refrigerator we own now. I don't remember when we bought it but it has been awhile.

Cables are designed to be 'Sacrificial' to protect the equipment they are connecting. It's the cheapest option.
