Solved OneDrive Setup on Windows 10/11 is ridiculous!!!

What on earth is going on with OneDrive? This is absolutely ridiculous...

I refreshed a Windows 10 computer to it's default state. Everything was fine until it was time to connect to OneDrive. Why on earth did not OD ask which folders to sync from the cloud during setup? Why is not Files On Demand ON by default?

I have terabytes of data in the cloud and very fast internet...now this refreshed computer SSD went full.

Had to uninstall One drive completely and delete all files from the OD default local folder on two user accounts. Jeez, what a mess...

I would recommend to turn off backing up the folders to OneDrive before disabling or uninstalling OneDrive to avoid possibly having these folders still linked to OneDrive.

Way back when OneDrive was still in the planning stages, it only had a project number.
That number was... 666 !!

We all spend much time protecting our computers from viruses and infections that will steal our data.
Then... we turn around and let OneDrive give copies of all our data to some software company.

I think the entire local <-> cloud implementation of OneDrive is flawed (not just OneDrive setup)

IMHO, MS ought to provide a global toggle local <-> cloud in the OS and everything lines up nicely

Right now, the toggle defaults on the cloud, and if a user wants local, then the user has to go through many steps and can easily go wrong

Chances for a global toggle local <-> cloud to happen is low, though, because everyone would toggle to local LOL

Also forget about a dual local/cloud operation, it would be like driving 2 cars at the same time

I've used OneDrive for many years. It's beautifully designed and the most important part of my data backup strategy. Unfortunately most people will never take the time to learn how to use it.

My System One, listed below in My Computers, has "Files On Demand" turned OFF. All my data on my 1 terabyte local SSD is kept in my OneDrive folder and mirrored in real-time on my 1 terabyte cloud OneDrive.

My System Two, listed below in My Computers, has a much smaller SSD and because of that has "Files On Demand" turned ON. Only the cloud OneDrive files I want to be local are kept locally.

All my data is always up to date in real-time on all my computers, my tablet, and my smart phone. I absolutely love it.

And i'm the opposite. I keep things in the cloud that are large that I don't necessarily want to keep on my local computers and chew up local disk space.

The opposites is exactly why the global toggle local <-> cloud ought to have been implemented, so that each can have their own

Yes, but they become less special when s-o-o-o-o many people also have them.

EDIT I know! There should be a t-shirt that says "I controlled OneDrive!". Now that'd be a rare collectors item.

yeah, i got one of those for backups too. But it doesn't help me much when I am trying to access my files from work, from my phone, etc. And with drives like that, backups of them are a must. My sisters house burned down, onsite backups didn't really work out so well for them.

I don't necessarily want 100% of the stuff in the cloud. Important data files I want in both places. So its nice to setup my local+cloud folders, and other folders that are cloud only.

For example, my cell phone backs up to one drive. But I have the pictures on my phone and I have the files in the cloud. I don't feel that I also need them on my computer. My cloud space works great for this as my phones immediately backup as soon as the pictures are taken. So, if a kid takes a picture and then breaks or loses their phone in 5 minutes, their pictures are safe in the cloud.
