Here is where I am now. This is a Lenovo K450E that is not supported for Windows 11. I used the bypass to install Windows 11 over a year ago and have been getting updates (I thought) without any problems. I was just told by a friend that 23H2 is available but I'm not seeing it when I check for updates.

I Microsoft suppressing new updates for systems that are not officially supported now?

No additional updates available here, also, how do I get rid of the HP Printer update? I don't have an HP printer.

I downloaded the 23H2 iso and did an update (mount iso and run setup) and replaced AppraiserRes.dll with a 0 length file after initial update failed saying system not supported and it updated without problem so my update question is now moot I guess.

I have one more system to do this to also but the procedure should work.

Still would like to know how to get rid of the HP Printer update is that's possible.

@Ztruker

This may help... it installs in about 3-4 seconds.
I have no idea if it will work on unsupported hardware. But it's quick, to try.

@Ztruker , with that peculiar update (now you've updated) try pausing WU then Resume again. It should refresh itself.

To stop WU from updating an unused printer driver, the old driver will probably have to be removed.
There are a number of things you can try.

#1
Open command prompt as administrator. Type printui.exe /s (Note: there is a space in between "printui.exe" and "/s")
Click on drivers tab. For everything relating to HP, select it and select remove. OK
Close all windows and restart.

#2
Open regedit to the following path.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SYSTEM -> CurrentControlSet -> Control -> Print -> Printers

Find the offending printer in the list and remove it completely from the list with any related subkeys.
DO NOT DELETE ANYTHING ELSE, NOT Microsoft Print to PDF, NOT Microsoft XPS Document Writer, or Send to OneNote [version number].
After deleting the corrupted key entries, reboot the system.

#3 As last resort, Driver Store Explorer should do it. Be very careful using it.

Once old driver is removed open WU and check for updates to see if it still tries to update the driver.

A couple things I've seen with non-existent printers, one is if they have been previously installed the uninstall routine may not have deleted all entries in the Registry. If CCleaner doesn't find the entries I've had to manually edit the Registry. The other thing is the possibility a Wireless/Wi-Fi printer somewhere close enough is being picked up.

I followed @glasskutter suggestion and used printui.exe /s to remove 4 HP printer drivers and their installation packages. Then @Fabler2 suggestion and paused then resumed updates and the HP printer update is gone.

Thanks all.

Now to do the same on my other non-supported Win 11 system.

The driver updates will still be listed under Drivers in the Update History, they just won't be installed until you allow it.
And then, you can allow them individually if desired.
