Hi folks,

Just installed windows 11 (clean install) on an old unsupported PC 12 years old, its running well no problems.

I have just noticed that the removable drives (as they are described in windows 10 ,i.e usb ports card reader at font of tower case) are not showing on My Pc in windows 11 but do show up up in disk management in windows 11 and do work nevertheless.

Unknown device is showing in device manager, but just wondering if this is a new feature of windows 11 NOT to show so called removable drives in My Pc?

As they seem to work ok when I insert media I am not too bothered but would like to know if this is a new feature of windows 11?

Many thanks
Joe.

This tread may help - you need to update your device with the latest updates to Windows 11.

It's still there on Windows 11 Build(22000.496) & is waiting the further attention of MS !

I suggest to check in Disk Management that your devices have the assigned drive letter when connected. Here you can re-assign a particular drive letter to another one, especially if it is used by permanent shortcuts.

Also check that the checkbox "Hide empty drives" in the Explorer options (Folder Options, View tab) is not selected. If it is, then USB adapters for flash cards like micro-SD may not be visible without inserted card.

Thanks Guys,

Seems like it may be connected to my Asus M4A785TD-V-EVO Motherboard chipset drivers, I have pulled out the old DVD with the drivers on it when I got the computer 12 years ago, but none would run.

Trying to install the latest windows 11 optional update now, the main thing is, anything I connect to these USB ports such as my phone, it all works fine, so maybe even though the removable drives do NOT appear in MY PC they all work fine.

All hard drive partitions (I have about 10) appear ok as does the DVD drive.

Probably just something minor that I will have to live with.

Update.

I think this may be a feature of windows 11 actually, when media is inserted into card reader or USB port at front of pc tower, it reads properly and does show up in MY PC, it seems the difference is compared to window 10 is that 10 will show all drives, card readers even when there is no media in removable drive, whereas in my system anyway with windows 11, it will only show removable drives in My PC if media is inserted into that particular port. Or maybe I am wrong in this, at least is all works which is great.

Further Update,
Got it solved, options in my PC, show hidden folders and drives.

Thanks again for all your help.
Joe
