Hi,

I am using Windows-11 (Version 22H..) and I use McAfee LiveSafe.
For some days now i get suddenly often an error message (see attachment) with the following text:

MC-WNS-Client.exe This application could not be started
MSIX Package version: 3000.851.1712.0
Do you want to install a compatible windows app runtime now?

Entering Yes or Now does not change anything, the message is always coming back

I think it is a McAfee-problem, caused by an software-update from McAfee recently

Does anyone know, how to solve this problem, because the error is coming back every day some times.

Thanks for all advises

Do you have McAfee installed and are you normally using it? I've seen a few computers that get McAfee installed quietly and usually when using Face Book, it's a Web Security app and can be difficult to remove all traces.

Hi @ariespaan ,

From MS answers:

"Hi I had this issue and it is a McAfee problem. I contacted them via their chat facility. It is a global problem they said. The technician told me to fix it I needed to uninstall McAfee and then reinstall it. I uninstalled using the usual Windows uninstall app method. To reinstall I logged into my McAfee account and followed the instructions to install.
The pop-up should then go away."

Anything using McAfee (or Mc Aweful) is going to be a problem. Why any of these C20 3rd party A/V vendors get any traction in the domestic market in C21 (not commercial or enterprise stuff -- another ballgame) just beggars belief.

WD today on W11 (pity given the past history on WD on W7 etc the name was unfortunate) which is based on Ms's Azure cloud service security --military strength and one of the best around today -there's NO NEED to install any of these old C20 type of things attempting to solve a problem that really no longer exists on HOME domestic computers.

Scams etc are far more of a problem. Windows Domestic users just leave WD to do its thing - it's a zillion times better than anything else for the "Mom and Pop" home domestic computer systems.

Cheers
jimbo

It's a matter of opinion, but I tend to agree that third party apps, from my experience especially Norton and McAfee , seem to cause issues of one kind or another. One issue being, they are resource hogs. If one is going to pay for such an app, I always recommend Malwarebytes Premium which runs happily alongside Windows Defender in realtime without a blip. I've used the 2-step solution of MWB and Defender for years and feel I'm as protected as I can be in my security choice.

@ariespaan .......... i totally agree with what @jimbo45 has said ! All you need is Windows Defender as an antivirus. All the others in my opinion after cleaning computers of junk, virus & Trojans for 25 yrs ! I can go into the registry & clean McAfee all out ! Most people just use the McAfee uninstaller >> Download McAfee Consumer Products Removal tool << !!

I have still a last question, about it.
When i remove McAfee (as stated in post #6) and using the McAfee Consumer Products Removing Tool,, will Windows (after a new Reboot) automatically start with the standard Windows-defender and Windows Firewall?
I mean: Do i have to do some more actions or is that all?
Thanks already

It's been a while but I seem to remember you will get a popup notification that security is turned off.
Open settings>privacy & security>select 'Open Windows Security' button.
The first 5 items should have a green check mark.
Select any area of security that is checked in red and it will take you to the section where that security area is managed. Switch it's setting to ON.

Usually Microsoft Security/Windows Defender will be active after removal of a third-party program but easily checked in the Notification Area.
