1mb of Unallocated Space in Win11 Partition Structure

Hi all,

After a clean install of win11 pro with a rufus tool, i think i achieved a basic gpt clean win 11 structure,
except for a 1mb unllocated space immediately preceding System Reserved:-

(top is left, bottom is right)

1mb unallocated space
100mb sys reserved
16mb MSR
windows main
restore partition

Normally under diskmanagement u can't see the 1mb and the 16mb msr, using a new EaseUS Partition Master (17+) i can see the msr, but not the 1mb. I only see the 1mb from an older version of EaseUS (12.x).

Anyone know what this 1mb is, or what to call it? i tried to search the net, some people say it's 'partition padding' and others say it's a special reserved boot area, but i think that is only if u install something like ubuntu. i do however have a fairly old chipset/chip and this system is capable of dual-boot legacy/uefi. usually i set it to uefi.

That 1MB of unallocated space is very common. I don't know what it is. I think it's just an oddity with Windows installations.
My guess is most people don't even know it's there.

Some TeraByte Unlimited tools such as TeraByte OS Deployment Tool and BootIt UEFI displays it.
If I see it when using BootIt UEFI, I usually get rid of it by going to Partition Work > Slide.



If you're not fussy like me, then just leave it there.

Yes, it's very common. This has to do with Hard Disk Geometry and and fast access of Blocks on the disk.

Today, 1Mb is tiny fraction of your didk space. Not worth worrying about.

Check the offset of the first partition.

Hi thanks for the replies! great Stigg, i will take a look at those software, looks fairly simple to use. i am not using easeus anymore as it installs too much shite to too many locations, + alot of malware.

Yes sry i didn't add a pic, i know how to because i was previously perusing sevenforums, but didn't cos i guessed this would be quite a common problem, and typing it seemed easier. now decided to move up to a modified win 11.

Note that different sized disks have different sector sizes (or block sizes in the case of SSDs). It so happens that 1MB is a multiple of any of those sizes, ensuring that the first partition begins aligned properly on a perfect multiple of the sector / block size.

One megabyte of HD space is so infinitesimal as to be a non issue. I have pictures on my own HD bigger than that.
My own advise would be to Forgetaboutit and put your efforts where they can actually do some good. Like in removing the thousands of junk files on your hard drive, that are taking up a lot more than 1 Megabyte. In most cases that I've seen, Gigabytes of wasted space are involved.
I clean my own HD (500GB SSD) every couple of days, using a Batch File that I wrote earlier this year.
On Cinco de Mayo I ran my cleanup batch file, and it gave me this report.

Yes, that's 160,347 junk files removed, in just a few seconds.
And no programs or system files are ever touched.

So, if you're really concerned about wasted space on your HD, remove the junk. And keep your PC clean, lean and mean!

Great advice! It's amazing how fast the junk can get piled up.
