Another Disk Imaging Software to Consider

There is another disk imaging program that I used some years ago by the name of "Acive@ Disk Image".


It is very straight-forward to use, has a nice, clean interface, but I had to give up on it years ago when I started to use BitLocker because of its complete lack of support for BitLocker. If you had a drive with almost zero data on it but it was BitLocker encrypted, the program wouldn't know what to do with it and it would create a full forensic copy. So, say you had a 1 TB drive and had 2 bytes of data on it. Your image would be 1 TB. I begged their Tech Support for years to support BitLocker and I see that they now finally do.

I just pulled down the trial version and it is FAST FAST FAST (at least on my system).

Might be worth checking out. There is a free version available. NOTE: You cannot restore an image with the free version. You can mount the image and restore files and folders, but no complete image restore with the free version.

It might be worth noting that this program supports not only client versions of Windows, but also Server editions at no extra charge.

I'm am testing it. The interface is very simple to understand. On my modestly specced laptop, a 58GB backup took ten minutes and verifying another nine minutes. This is about the same as Macrium.
Both images were about 42GB.

That doesn't sound very appealing anymore hehe

I was wondering what disk genius free was like
It's supposed to do cloning and system imaging with winpe bootable media as well.
No bitlocker support unless you get the 100.us version might as well get reflect license hehe

Only item I tried it on was recreating a RE partition but MS didn't use it so strike 1 hehe

If it doesn't it's winpe is pretty lame hehe

It refers to clone a lot and not system imaging that's for sure on the version comparison.

It isn’t enough to just test the backup side, it’s strange way to offer a trial in my opinion. So it looks like there is only one way to find out for sure. I’m yet to come across a company that won’t revoke a license for a valid reason and it’s only $39 anyway.
If it turns out that I didn’t do my homework properly, it’s a cheap lesson learned.

Yes, create an image but not restore an image? That’s half a trial. Or am I confused?

Did you find it would be worth the purchase, being the same cost as Macrium but without the complications I read of. Not holding you responsible for any recommendation of course.

If I were a rich man I would I try it.

Well, we have a number of well known quality and respected tools with a good track record e.g.

Macrium Reflect (free version still available.
Aoemi Backupper
Hasleo Backup Suite
Easeus To Backup
Veem

and other lesser known tool e.g. Paragon.

There is very little incentive to test other "New Kids on the Block" (even if it has been around for a while but not well known) unless they offer a significant advantage over the existing free tools and are demonstrably robust.

The fact that you have to pay to restore destroys all credibility.

Who in their right mind would pay for such a tool unless very confident of the quality and robustness?

I liked it when I used it, but I dropped it several years ago because it did not support BitLocker. They finally added it in now so I'm once again intrigued.

According to its homepage, the free version can be used to restore images.

Are the contrary comments because this table is contradicted somewhere else in their website?

I've lost interest. The same table says that the free version cannot be used to make a boot disk so I could not fully test it before spending money.

It was about Disk Genius.

I agree. There should be a trial period where you can test all the features. It is coded in Canada, so I would try it if I did not have to pony up forty bucks in advance.

Diskgenius free will backup disk or partition to image file by files

The title implies less known imaging programs or programs that can do imaging of a sort. Things that people might not have been aware of.

No point in repeating stuff about the well known programs which already have their own threads and countless posts.

Diskgenius imaging is unusual. It can backup partition to image file with optional exclusions, which can be very useful. But I cant see a way to exclude things from disk backup to image file.

Paragon used to have imaging of a sort included in their partition programs. I dont know if they still do. Presumably so an image can be mnade before committting to complex partitioning in case the user messes up.
