Just upgraded...Hmmmm ????

OK, when I send/email a PDF or ms word doc, or photo etc etc how can i disable the right click menu so the recipient cant right click what i just sent them?

Ive searched all over all I can find is how to disable the right click for my own PC
I want the recipient right click disabled

Help please

Is this even possible? How did you achieve this on Windows 10?

I'm not sure I completely understand what you want. One has no control over the right click context menu on the recipient's computer and never has. As far as I know, nothing has changed with the way emails are handled within windows. One can always make a file read only, upload it to onedrive, and send a link to the recipient with a view only option while denying them editing privileges.

Off the top of my head I don't know of anyway to accomplish this.

Is the desire because you don't want the recipient able to right-click and use the resultant context menu choices to be operable such as Copy or Print, etc.? Don't forget there's the Snippy tool that will allow capture of things on the screen. When sending a document I usually have it in the .pdf format and the full program for creating them [not the free Readers] allows security such as prohibiting things listed in the Properties of the file.

If you could send him code to disable right clicking on a file, you could also send him code to disable his computer altogether, or some other malware

I have never heard of that one I would say "no way"

in the past i have received files (mainly from large institutions (banks, etc) and after I have downloaded the file, and right click to see who the author is, created etc it says "Right click has been disabled"

This is my goal, to disable right click so the recipients cant see the author, created etc etc

I like to have the file extensions showing in File Explorer [renamed from the older Windows Explorer] so as to get an idea or identification of what program was used to create them. There is a "new" method of bypassing the Save feature called Microsoft Print to PDF, if wanting to save the contents of a window can be handy. I've saved a PDF that had all the security set [a church's By-Laws] but using Print to PDF created a new file without the restrictions.

I had no idea that it is possible to prevent the properties of a file from being read.

I have never received a download that is locked in that way, including files from financial institutions.

Maybe there's a better forum to ask about this. Most of the regulars here don't seem to be strong privacy advocates.

No, it won't be possible for a 'file' to tell a recipient's computer 'do not right click on this file'. If that were possible, then it would also be possible for the 'file' to tell the recipient's computer 'encrypt user data'. That's not a 'file', that's malware.

Adobe Acrobat Pro can 'sanitize' a file to remove any personal information from the file properties. Office apps like MS Word also have the same feature 'to prepare a document for publication'. Right clicking such files on a recipient's computer only show file properties with generic information devoid of any personal information.

If @Berton has re-saved/re-printed his church's By-Laws then it is no longer the original church's By-Laws, it is his own personal copy, and the personal information appearing in the properties of the re-saved/re-printed file are his own (he could of course 'sanitize' the copy)

Perhaps I'm off base but with the full version of Adobe Acrobat you can created protected documents where editing is completely disabled. You can also convert word documents to PDF file and also protect them from alteration. I've done myself. It does however require the paid version of Adobe Acrobat as the "free" version lacks both document protection and Word conversion.

As far as masking an author, I don't know about that.

Ya I don`t think any free version of Adobe Reader does anything anymore.

As far as I know all the free reader did was allow you to view PDF files, with maybe some functionality like filling in forms.

Anyway, I've always owned a full version of Acrobat. It's one of my core can't live without programs along with Microsoft Office.

Well, I specifically mentioned Adobe Acrobat Pro (as distinct from Adobe Acrobat Standard) because it has the most extensive menu of 'locking down' and 'anonymizing' a file. There is a difference between 'locking down' and 'anonymizing'.

Taking the church's By-Law document as an example, I don't think that the 'locking down' of the original document went far enough. At the very least, the non-re-saving / non-re-printing feature ought to have been set also. Since it has not been set, @Berton was able to re-save / re-print the file, resulting in a copy that can be edited. If @Berton were a malicious individual, he could have inserted a 'no' thereby changing the By-Law to the opposite. The resulting file could be locked down with the exact same menu options as the original (and 'sanitized', see next paragraph) and the only difference from the original would be the date (and that can be tampered with, too)

But even if the 'lock down' is strict, that does not necessarily mean that the document is 'anonymized'. The latter is done with 'sanitizing'. So, right clicking a strictly locked down document will still reveal the author in the file properties, for example, if the strictly locked down document is not 'sanitized'. Vice versa, a document that is not locked down at all but which is 'sanitized' will not reveal who the author is in the file properties. An example for the latter document is one that is being worked on by a team. Such a document is often protected by a password (yet another feature of document management) so that only team members can make changes to the document (not just content editing)

Document management has become a science in itself. But coming back to the OP's "I want the recipient right click disabled" if you receive a file that you can't right click > delete the file immediately > do malware scans > pray

Why not make a copy of the file first then remove the info/properties under properties and send the copy.

Thats why I asked on here...it doesnt work.
I tried many times even remove properties blah blah then reboot and still doesnt work.

I have 'attribute changer' it works but on the 'accessed' line it wont change that

IMHO, Adobe Acrobat Pro has the best features in this regard, followed by the MS Office apps (although functionally, they all work well)

Although use of the latter can be indicated, e.g. a slide deck works better in PowerPoint than as a pdf (especially if you use animations)

On the other hand, everyone has Adobe Reader, not everyone has the free viewers for the MS Office apps.

Use them all according to circumstance

Are you sure that's not a program issue like Acrobat or Outlook and not Windows 11?
