Windows 11 Home 64 bit ver. 22631.2861
I received a win11 HP computer for Christmas. I am used to the Win 8.1 interface configured to resemble Win 7. I am trying to learn the new UI, which seems as alien as an Apple interface. Can you point me to tutorials or books to bring me gently from Win8.1 to Win11 interface? Right now I don't even know how to turn it off, other than hitting the physical power button. The new laptop is an HP. I am posting this from my 8.1 laptop since I don't know how to get here from my 11.
Thanks, Jon

Click Start and on the right side just above the Taskbar is the power button. Or right-click the Start button and choose the Shutdown.

It's the same way if running the same Internet Browser. Which ones did you have on Win8.1?

Welcome to the forum John. It is admirable that you are trying to learn the ins and outs using 11 as it was designed. Most here transitioned from 10 to 11 so the learning curve was not as much of a shock.

This forum has a searchable tutorial index that may be of help (located at the top of any page). Some of it is basic stuff while some are more complex subjects. Like with every OS prior, there is a "Windows 11 for Dummies" book purchasable from any major bookstore or Amazon. While I do encourage you to learn 11's interface as it is, you can also alter it to look like earlier versions of Windows just as you did with your Windows 8. What 3rd party app did you use with 8? Chances are it's developer has developed a version that will work with 11 as well.

Just remember, everything starts with the start button (the flying Windows key) on the taskbar, You can search for most things from there which is very good about sending you to the right place in its search results.

Don't hesitate to ask here with any question you have, no matter how simple you might think it is. No question is a dumb question. We understand about being a newbie. We've all been there.
Please click on your user name at the top of the forum. Then 'system specs'. Fill out as much information as you can as the more we know, the better we can make sure our answers apply to you. These specs should be on the box your laptop/PC came in. Under OS state if you are running Home or Pro and the version of 11. You can find this information by clicking start>settings>system>about
To give you a better idea what I mean click on MY COMPUTERS directly below. These are my system specs.

Thank you all very much. I will explore what you have given me.
As to browser on my 8, I used IE until it became corrupted. Since then I have used Brave quite successfully.

Actually, Internet Explorer has been deprecated, means it's gone away and Edge took it's place.

Yep, I knew that, but since the OS was way out of date too, I didn't mind, until some adware infected it. I've learned to like Brave very much. I've put some of my system specs (new one) into the profile. Main: 64 bit Win11 Home in S mode. My son went all out with this gift, and he's an Apple guy. What does S mode mean?

"Windows 11 in S mode is a version of Windows 11 that's streamlined for security and performance, while providing a familiar Windows experience. To increase security, it allows only apps from Microsoft Store, and requires Microsoft Edge for safe browsing."

I strongly suggest you do not limit yourself with using S mode when you can easily change to full blown Windows within seconds.

Hi. Before I ever installed Windows 11, I went on YouTube and watched a Windows 11 Review. That was really helpful and prepared me for the basics. You might find that helpful too.
